Chinese Grand Prix 2011, Shanghai International Circuit - Race 3/19

you realise hes trolling? and here is why
alonso set his fastest time at lap 41 or 16:15:19 (china time)
trulli set his time at lap 53 or 16:37:36 (china time)

22minutes passed since alonso set his fastest laptime now how much fuel do you think he burnt off? i bet its much more than 7 tenths ;)

I don't get why the time at which the fastest lap was set is relevant. They both did the same amount of laps, Trulli was faster fair and square?

Because 22 minutes later in the race he will have had significantly less fuel on the car which means a lot less weight and i'm sure you well know how much difference weight can make to the performance of a car.

Trulli had about 4 laps worth of fuel in the car vs Alonso's time with 16 laps or so in the car. It's a big weight difference in an F1 car.

so what? both drivers went through stages of carrying a heavy fuel load, both drivers went through stages of having worn tyres, both drivers went through periods where traffic wasn't helping:confused:

Well saying 'OMG our fastest lap was almost as fast as Alonso' is a bit misleading when you've set that lap in an almost empty car vs one with a quarter of a race worth of fuel in it.

We should certainly bear it mind yes, as you would do with any comparison where there are inconsistent variables.

Ignoring such things just gives you misleading numbers that have no context which is of no benefit to anyone.

Vettel uses "the finger" for complimenting others, as well, it seems.

I'm just saying you have to bear these things in mind - the laps were not set under equal conditions - pretending they are directly comparable is just misguided. One car was ~40kg lighter when it set it's fastest lap, on a car weighing 640kg minimum that's a very substantial difference.

Sure, it's a nice little soundbite for Lotus but there's no point getting carried away, it's not really as impressive as it first sounds.

hmm, the only thing that matters is the tyres, a faster lap is a faster lap, I would question why the Ferrari set it's fastest lap so early in the race, they obviously got the strategy completely wrong.

am I the only one who's getting a bit sick of JH
