Chinese Grand Prix 2011, Shanghai International Circuit - Race 3/19

They are all in the same boat and so will all do that tactic. The reason they didn't all do that today, is they don't understand the tyres yet.

But not all circuits are like we had today, remember thefirstgp.its all about understanding the tyres and once that happens it will settle down

you're probably right, in fact if Vettel had 3 stopped he would have walked it, or did he 3 stop:confused:

To be honest Gascoyne speaks a lot of crap. He will find any minor statistic and use it to plug the success of his outfit. He does it week after week and it's so cringe worthy.

Nathan, this is the job of a team-principal.

The idea is to basically highlight any successes and not the failures. Think of the media interviews as sales tasks. Remember, every second he is on the telly, his job is to sell his team to potential sponsors and also reassure his current sponsors that their money is being put to good use and the team they are investing in, is moving forward. You never know, the sponsors could be watching/listening to the interviews and want to be told the right things.

Just like a company owner will sing the praises of the products/services his company sells, an F1 team owner must also state how well his team is doing and how good his staff are. He will also give overly optimistic forecasts about this team.

Gascoyne knows exactly what he is doing.

Its unfortunate that Williams don't seem to do this. Williams are a pure racing/engineering outfit and don't seem to give a damn about schmoozing the media. Perhaps this is one of their downfalls. While McLaren (who were their closest rivals in the 2 decades ago), have learnt to use the media to advertise their team (check out all their TV/internet adverts) and have created a well-known brand, Williams don't seem to have ever done this. The result is that McLaren have gained ever increasing sponsorship deals (with more money to play with), while Williams have stayed where they are.

Ferrari are similar to Williams (in that they don't seem to care about sponsors), but Ferrari have the luxury of getting a lot of money from the FIA and get funding from FIAT.

LOL, I just realised, FIAT is one letter away from FIA.

Here's a question:

During qualifying, in 2 of the 3 races, Vettel has been much much faster than anybody else on the grid. Yet, in both those races, he hasn't been nearly as far ahead in the race. Why is this?

Only 10Kg of fuel (acording to D.C.) and new tyres?. Both of which his car is well suited to.

Great race, Loved all of it :)

What I want to know is how comes KERS in Webbers car seems to not work full stop, yet in Vettles car they have it working at least most of the race?

How can two identical systems performs so differently?

Really hope McLaren manage to bring a decent working update to Europe and continue to chase down the RBR cars.

:)

A lot of mixed feelings from this race!

At one point I couldn't keep track of what everyone was doing with who had/hadn't stopped, where people were etc. What an awesome feeling :D

Really good race, I just wish some people finished ahead of others ;)

This race was awesome, and it was awesome to see Webber ploughing thru the field... :D

I think the Kers batteries are probably overheating and even dying...

I'm guessing that they're using Li-ion cells as these offer the best energy density AFAIK, and these things hate heat, once they go above 80 degrees C they're as good as dead, so this would explain why KERS can be so unreliable...

This is exactly what I don't understand.

I think Vettel generally has KERS in qualifying and at the start of the race. While Webber has no KERS at all.

Looks like it could be a great season except for DRS. Great idea but the stupid rules around it's use make the race complicated and somewhat unfair. Why not ban it, or allow drivers to deploy it when they like? So sad they have had to result to this stupid device to force overtaking!!!

It was a much more intersting race and the combination of the DRS, KERS and the tyre performance is creating lots of overtaking opportunities but I am left with the feeling that we still live in a World where 2 evenly matched cars can race and short of a mistake no one could pass. The tracks really need to be reconsidered to give drivers a chance to to take alternate lines through corners, which I accept is probably not an easy task. I'm just reflecting on last years racing and Button's comments that tyre wear is such a massive decider in performance that strategy trumps driver skill by too big a margin.

Red Bull are clearly struggling to develope Kers then all the testing of parts and ideas would go on webbers car first and not be put onto Vettels car until proven reliable ;)

Is anyone else amazed at how few incidents there have been at the start of each race? Normally a few cars at the back will hit each other, but it is as if the FIA have warned the drivers that if they don't make it around the first corner, they will be banned for life.

Also when was the last race where there was only one retirement, and even then that retirement was due to a bad pit stop rather than any mechanical failure or accident? I am amazed at how reliable the back markers have been so far this season.

FIA to investigate Alonsos wing...

A bit of a non issue I think. Clearly it hindered his pace and having unpredictable downforce levels at certain times must have been handy :D

God knows why such a simple system is giving them problems on Alonsos car for two races running.

We never saw an onboard of the clip we saw it in use, was he pushing the button or was it going on it's own?

If he was pushing it he should be punished for using it in a illigal place. If he isn't then leave it be.
