Chinese Grand Prix 2014, Shanghai - Race 4/19

Not as big a mistake as the FIA made.

The chequered flag was shown to Hamilton on lap 55 - and the result has been changed to have been finish after 54 laps.

So the main change will be that Kobayashi's last minute overtake will not count as it happened after the race finished...

Morons.

43) FINISH
43.1 The end-of-race signal will be given at the Line as soon as the leading car has covered the full race distance in accordance with Article 5.3.
43.2 Should for any reason the end-of-race signal be given before the leading car completes the scheduled number of laps, or the prescribed time has been completed, the race will be deemed to have finished when the leading car last crossed the Line before the signal was given.
Should the end-of- race signal be delayed for any reason, the race will be deemed to have finished when it should have finished.

That is ridiculous, they can't do that because the flag went back in didn't it so no one else would have stopped racing and Hamilton didn't. if the FIA take away the last lap because one guy saw a flag and DIDN'T stop racing that would be insane, completely insane.

EDIT:- where have you seen them say they are changing the result as I can't see it reported anywhere yet?

Crazy if the flag issue is true. Need sauce to confirm now.

The race flag waving today has been really bad. Random blue and now the wrong lap checkered flag

Hamilton grabbing the bottle off his trainer then spraying him with champagne was funny. The team in general seems happy, obviously a winning team is happy but the attitude of the team. Toto is actually funny and speaks well, is positive and there seems to be a happy, everyone working together, everyone enjoys working there vibe and Hamilton has that written all over his face as well.

These moments never last long in F1, but Mercedes deserve everything they're getting right now. They have been building a good team for a few years now so it shouldn't be a huge surprise, and so far nobody has complained about grey-area technical interpretations that tend to follow winning constructors.

What a balls up with the flag, Would be interesting to see the fallout had a more important move taken place in the last 2 laps.

Overall a pretty dull race, Seems like the better races will be tracks with higher rear tyre wear than front. Much more opportunity for bad/good traction leading to an overtake without the need for DRS

BBC is finally saying it as well, so Kobi loses his place, completely ridiculous situation. Clearly a mistake and because only Hamilton saw it had no effect. It didn't stop anyone else from racing to the normal end of the race so why the hell change it, completely farcical situation.

Because at the end of the season, for Caterham and Marussia, it might be tallied back to the 17th and 18th place they were squabbling for on the last lap, which means millions of pounds. Granted that's unlikely, but it could happen, so you've got the follow the rules.

It's up there with Pele missing the leader when he was waving the flag, though that had zero impact on anyone.

Awesome more F1 drama! I only got to listen on 5Live as I am at work but enjoyed what I heard.

Merc waltzing away with Hamilton, kudos to the awesome engineers that are now reaping the rewards of hard work. It must have begun a long time ago when Ross Brawn saw the long game.

Vettel for the "lol" radio message of the day!

What an absolutely riveting race. Amazing. Edge of the Seat thriller...

Anyway, driver of the day... easily Rosberg, fantastic drive to recover from first straight knock and no telemetry. Brilliant recovery drive.

Another snoozefest season in store. Woohoooooo!

I wonder what would happen should the chequered flag be accidentally waved at the end of lap 1?

Technically...

The race would be ended and the final positions would have been the grid positions post warmup lap *in case of any failures to start* and no points would be awarded as less than 2 laps had been completed.

I think it will be Jensons last year with Mclaren, Ron was never much of a fan he was whitmarsh's choice. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Japanese driver at Mclaren next year ;)

Don't you think it will be his last year in F1? I do.

Comedians.

Why on Earth would Jenson be axed when he beat his team mate in the last two Grand Prix?

On top of that...

"Anything is possible, but Jenson is doing a great job," said Dennis. "He is quick and he is dedicated so there is no reason not to stay with Jenson from any perspective. But we still have a whole season to go."

A quote by the big man himself...

And on top of that Button has ties with Japan - Japanese Girlfriend, has driven for Honda before. FWIW Button may as well be Japanese to most of Japan!

If anyone is given the boot for let's say, someone like Stoffel, then so far this season it'd be Kevin.

Also, makes me laugh at how people don't say anything about Kimi Raikonnen - he's about the same age as Jenson, if not exactly the same age? Yet no one is saying this will be his last season...

Despite Alonso getting 3rd today and Kimi just scraping into the points - and being utterly battered and beat hand over fist once again by Alonso...

Kimi Raikonnen, it must surely be his last year then! Or maybe he's just utterly overrated??
