Nobody but the elitest even know about the difference in summer / normal black tie events. A white tux is hardly being disrespectful, most likely it will be the cause of a smile or two and some laughs before getting trashed at the Christmas party. A crime against humanity? I think not.
I think you've taken this opportunity to highlight that in your lives you go to events where this sort of thing matters, making you the exclusive minority. Well done.
