Cineworld cancels The Lady of Heaven film screenings after protests

The "film makers should have known better", or maybe people living in the UK should understand they're living in a country that has freedom of expression, things are allowed to be shown that could be deemed as offensive. Islam isn't special, no one outside of that religion has any obligation not to offend.

Funnily enough I put all the major religious books out this morning for a trial over Teams and I said "I've put the Koran on the top shelf because that's what the Chaplain told me to do" and the book was pulled down to the same level as the others.

One of the biggest insults to Muslims is showing an image of Mohammed and this film has got him in it.
A few years ago we saw an attack on a French magazine where staff were murdered for portraying Mohammed so yes it's quite serious and the film makers should have known better.
I for one will wait for it on my usual channels to watch.

I believe Netflix is showing the film.

As an employer one of Cineworld's main concerns is the safety of their staff. If they are seeing a direct correlation between the film screening and danger to their staff then they should remove the film.

No they shouldn't, they should call the police and deal with the perpetrators properly.

Here's an idea - if you're Muslim (or anyone actually) and thinks the film might offend you, don't go see it.

They are protesting over the fact that it exists and is being promoted, and profit is being made off it. They don't have to go and see it.

And yet those films got shown, and this with much less attention, was effectively banned (or at least "cancelled")

Thirty-nine local authorities in the United Kingdom either imposed an outright ban, or imposed an X (18 years) certificate. Some countries, including Ireland and Norway, banned its showing, and in a few of these, such as Italy, bans lasted decades.

The protests are nonsensical, but this really is excellent marketing for the film. Get it onto as many digital platforms as possible and let everyone watch it.

Cineworld can't have their staff being threatened, we've seen in the past what extremists are capable of.

The protests are nonsensica

Not really, since the start of the Muslim religion images of Allah and Mohammed have been prohibited.
I work with two Muslims and out of respect I wouldn't put a picture on my wall depicting either of them, it's just the adult thing not to do it.
Of course we're now going to get "but what about the tiny minority of Muslims who do things against us?", well it's not my Managers or any of the 1000s who work in this Trust so just be nice to each other.

This is not a Muslim country, if people want to show a film with a supposed image of Muhammed or an imaginary god then they should be free to do so.

That's where we differ, since we were all a hotch potch of immigrants at one time I view this country as multi faith.

No trailers before any films I've watched at Cineworld recently, I'd not even heard of it until this kicked off yesterday and all the news places picked it up.

No it's not racist. Muslims aren't a race.
This was claimed by B.Johnson in 2018 as part of his attack on women wearing the burkha and defended by such intellectual luminaries as Andrew Bridgen.

Of course you wouldn't do it out of only spite to people you know. That's just being a respectful person. I wouldn't put a photo of a page 3 girl up on the office wall either for the same reason. This situation is completely different. So what if Muslims collectively don't like those images being displayed, what relevance does that have and why should we collectively pander to it? I'd say the same about any religion if similar things applied.

All religion is backwards thinking, designed to control a population in medieval times. We don't need it any more as we're all controlled by the economy and banks now.

I still believe in respecting others even if they believe in a fairy in the sky.

Just to confirm you're saying if someone commits a terrorist attack then we shouldn't offend people like that again, essentially, terrorism is an effective tool for getting what you want. Bend over for terrorism guys

I'm saying that the Magazine knew they were going to upset Muslims so shouldn't have done it.
I can't see what's so hard about respecting other peoples beliefs, it's mind boggling that people don't want to.
