Cineworld cancels The Lady of Heaven film screenings after protests

I'm saying that the Magazine knew they were going to upset Muslims so shouldn't have done it.
I can't see what's so hard about respecting other peoples beliefs, it's mind boggling that people don't want to.

I still believe in respecting others even if they believe in a fairy in the sky.

People like you are dangerous really.

A group of people believe the world is flat, should we respect that too and never make any TV programmes ridiculing it? A flat Earth is as fanciful as any god.

Those mobs are using the free speech this country offers them to suppress the free speech of others.
They're a bunch of hypocrites and the only thing that's worse is people caving into it and allowing them to get their way.

If they want to live in a country that follows and rules by their beliefs than there is nothing stopping them moving to one. But whilst they're living here they should respect that the free speech offered to them is offered to everybody and they have no right to protest what other people choose to think and say.

Not really, since the start of the Muslim religion images of Allah and Mohammed have been prohibited.
I work with two Muslims and out of respect I wouldn't put a picture on my wall depicting either of them, it's just the adult thing not to do it.

I'm going to tell my wife her sister's a muslim, so I can take her photos down at home.

I know what your saying, but i reckon some deeply religious white people in the usa would if was about certain things (I remember the top gear episode with man love OK, and hilary for president getting a hillbilly reaction).

That's not the UK though. The states is a nut jobs paradise.

The film makers have free Speech in order to make the film.

The people who are upset by the film also have free speech to complain about it.

cineworld was right to pull the film. They have a duty of care to their staff, if something happened to A staff member/staff members because they ‘made a stance’ would that comfort the families of those affected? people saying cineworld should show the movie, you rock up and volunteer to work their for showings of the movie? Have you thought that maybe Cineworld staff were not comfortable with it and they listened to their staff?

The protesters are welcome to voice their concerns, not intimidate the staff at a cinema to the point they have to pull it to protect their wellbeing/safety.

Where does it stop.

What a silly post.

Do you know what specific threats were made by these protestors? Did the staff just feel uncomfortable due to protests outside? Protests often can be intimidating if you are on the receiving end.

Specific threats dont have to be made to intimidate.

In a statement, Cineworld said: “Due to recent incidents related to screenings of ‘The Lady of Heaven’, we have made the decision to cancel upcoming screenings of the film nationwide to ensure the safety of our staff and customers.”

But some people were unhappy with the protest.

Susan Shaw said she and her mum missed a film due to the protests.

Susan said: “It was absolutely ridiculous and scared my elderly mum.

“There were more than 50 people there and they were shouting and waving around. I had to call the police but went home as my mum was on edge.

“This is not acceptable; you don’t get to decide what other people can watch at a cinema."

She added: "I have lived all over the Middle East, I would never do anything like this over there.

Susan continued: “We were going to watch Top Gun but didn’t watch anything as my mum didn’t want to go in.”

As I said, a protest can appear intimidating if you’re on the receiving end. There is nothing to suggest that the protesters threatened people, the reports say they were shouting. That happens during a protest.

As I said, as much as the tories are in the works of banning it, there is still a right to protest in this county. I’d have thought that would be a welcome thing amongst the ‘my grandfather didn’t fight the Germans for us to not have a voice’ brigade. You’d think the right to protest would be applauded.
