Cisgender

I don't think its about degrading other people but rather announcing as much as possible to everyone what your unique label is because they are scared of being judged, when in reality.... no one cares.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It's more the people who are either against people being LGBT because "it's wrong" or some stupid excuse, or with the people who are LGBT and feel the need to call other people "offensive" etc for not caring.

Why can't people just get on with each other!

'Cause identity politics, bro! Life's a stand-up comedy act now -- you either flow with it, or it's poured over your head!:)

It's all completely bizarre.

It's like what Tyler Durden from Fight Club says. This generation has no great battle, nothing to fight for, so we're just going to get more of this rubbish because it makes them feel special. Mental illness more like.

This is where I would disagree.

People are being shunned for who they are almost worldwide still, and people are murdered for being LGBT in the middle east and Russia etc. There's a long way to go with equality universally. Whether it be homo/transphobia, racism, sexism and so on.

I don't think claiming people who are LGBT just have a "mental illness" really helps.

I do not have a label!

Here you go, I hope you have a barcode reader near you:)

I prefer Urban Dictionary's definition:

they do have a point, the term is frequently used in a derogatory manner - it also isn't a term that most normal people would chose to use to describe themselves... so if we're keen on people choosing their own labels and not being derogatory to each other than 'cis' should be banned

+1

There're battles, and then there are teenage-level fits of indignation. There's a difference.

The main issue I have at the moment is energy is being spent less on genuine equality (i.e. all people are equal regardless of race / gender / orientation / skin colour / religion / age / etc etc) into creating a blame culture and attacking, primarily, white men.

I was born with advantages over other people - I had loving parents and raised in a nice area. Neither of those things have anything to do with any of the above "types". There were also people of different ethnicities / genders / orientations who were born with more priviliges (wealth / power / nicer areas etc). Do I blame them for my life? Of course I dont.

I judge people on who they are not what they are. The perversion of so many of these extremes is that they are doing exactly what they castigate others for. Height of hypocrisy.

Fair play if they are actually trying to do something about it though, rather than sit on Tumblr and moan about straight people like most appear to be doing.

And I should clarify, I only really meant people who feel their sex is wrong and go to extreme lengths to change it via operations, etc. That is just... not normal. Not that I have anything against them mind, but still...

Trans people do have a mental illness though. It is no more or less helpful than saying someone with anorexia has a mental illness.

Unfortunately the ones who sit on tumblr and moan are the most vocal and hence most seen/reported on, and hence it looks like they're the majority. Truth is they're very much the minority, as annoying as they are! When people who are not straight start attacking those who are for no good reason it is very pathetic. Much like there are those within the LGBT community who attack for example bisexual people saying "you can't like both you're just gay but hiding it". It's the height of hypocrisy and it's just ridiculous. You're going to get idiots everywhere I guess :o

However the words "mental illness" tend to be used to degrade by a lot of people which is what I do not like.

It's all stuff to do with what happens in the brain, so it's mental, but it isn't an "illness" and shouldn't be branded as such in my opinion.

thinking you're something you are not is considered delusional. how do you generally view someone who is exhibiting delusions (e.g. a schizophrenia sufferer)?

e: also what are your thoughts on 'transableism'?

e2: what do you think about this:

I wouldn't say they're "thinking they're something they're not".

The way I look at it after hearing the stories and reading the facts is that they are quite literally born into a body that is different from the body their brain 'thinks' is what they 'should be'. And in my opinion that is not an illness.

Are they really? Or do they just want to be. You know for attention etc. You can't twll me stereotypical gay men don't over act it to get attention and make themselves stand out. It can be redicolous..

You really think people decide to do this for attention? People commit suicide because of these kinds of things, and because of the hatred they receive, and you think that's just for attention?

Yes there are people who overact stuff. But you get them in all walks of life. There are plenty of overly flamboyant people i've met who are straight, and those who are gay etc.
