am i missing something in regards to moving around the map?

i seem to have to use wasd a lot more than i was expecting.

I just use edge scrolling a lot, its not as if you need to be fast acting. I don't know of any other way to move the map around bar them two methods though.

That is a bummer, only 300 k people ?

I have come across another annoying limitation, the map I play won't give me enough water:

How am I supposed to get more water ? Loads of districts are already on ''water saving'' ( the higher density ones) and my pumps are failing because the river doesn't flow in enough water :(.

Space your water pumps out. I had the same issue. Built too many on one spot. The pumps actually suck up the water so you mess the flow of the river up. I'm playing on the same map and reversed the flow of part of the river.

All solved by a few water towers and spreading the pumps out.

445 hours on Cities :D

How you managed 50% more hours than have passed to date since release, 3 days ago, is beyond me.

Black holes are mysterious creatures :D

Has anyone else noticed the game also fudges your income?
I've been digging up & flattening land the size of a single plot using the terraform mod, and when im in the multi-millions my weekly income is around 75,000. When i spend a ton on terraforming and am skint, my income miraculously raises to 225,000.

So you can make 1m in about a month, but when you're in the 5m+ area its 1/3 so its pretty much a quarter per million.

Its kinda irrelevant, but very noticable when you go from doing nothing to spending millions and it magically recalculates your income to 3x more.

A few resized images of my city, pop 145k

The airport seems to have an issue where the pathing for the near airport involves the planes approach coming down the runway of the far airport, before pulling up sharply, corkscrewing up and adjusting itself slightly before doing a terrifying divebomb run lining up the correct runway!

Not a good week to be a plane passenger!

I had a fun problem where I placed a dam and over time every last drop of water disappeared from the river downstream  Eventually I removed the dam and put it somewhere else which was amusing, watching the big wave of water refilling the river :D

Anyone please?

You have to create a district over the industrial area (the button to the right of the zone tool) and then you can (from the same menu) select a specialisation and apply it to that district... Use the info view to show which areas of the map are rich in which natural resource to get the most out of it

Looks to me like you have put all your pumps together, in which case the next pump down the line will get less water because it is being drained away by the one before it, and so on and so on.
Space them further apart down the river instead.

Edit: I was beaten to it. But nvm.

Cities has been out years, I don't have the new version, which is the old version with a few new bits.

Hope that makes you less confused...you will see the new one has not captured me just yet...

Cheers guys, once you've done the district specialisation etc whats the benefit to the city?

Also how does one export out of city?

Exports are automatic if there is no requirement for the goods locally. To save precious road use, it pays to put oil fired power stations near to oil fields with oil specific industrial districts on them.

You can make districts without the natural resource, and the game will attempt to import the raw materials for your district. Extra traffic and reduced tax revenue result though.

Ahh, that makes more sense :D. Im not sure if i missed other posts talking about the XL series, but it would have been clearer if you'd mentioned it was the XL series, cos saying Cities in this thread gives the impression you're shortening down for this game not another, and even these comments you're still referring to it by an nondescript name.
TBH, I also cant really tell if you're aware they're completely different games & developers, with the 'old version' & 'new one' bits.

When you down an asset from the workshop how do you actually find it in game?

If its something in particular, like a new airport, fire, police etc type ploppable, then it'll be in with the official assets.
If its a zoned RCI asset, it'll randomly appear like the rest. At least i'd assume so cos i've only downloaded a couple from the ex-Maxis guy and i've not really gone looking.

With the dummy airport assets (terminals & air traffic tower, they're there next to the original). You could also check in the parks, but i doubt it's a park you've got and didnt look there.

So far i've only downloaded some fancy intersections, a roundabout and a large ploppable residential area with roads and such. Cant find any of them in game and they are activated in the mod manager bit.

Intersections will be in the roads tab, the 5th tab (2/4/6 lane, motorway & intersection), same with roundabouts.

A 'large ploppable residential area with roads and such' sounds more like a save game tbh. I did the same the other day liking the look of a fancy looking airport all pre-built, couldnt find it then realised something that size couldnt possibly be a ploppable, iirc the largest size we can plop is 12x16/16x12. Its possible it could be in the interchanges tab if its small enough, but im not sure if its just me but none of the road related stuff has been particularly great for plopping into an existing scene. It doesnt want to attach to existing features. I built a mini roundabout, the access roads i included wont lock to the roads already placed, so you have to delete it or plop it just away and road onto it. So a stencil style ploppable wouldnt work either. I do hope they'll fix that, cos it magnetises/snaps to road, but never lets me place it.
