Cities: Skylines

I did that with SimCity 2013 and avoided reading or watching anything about it pre release. I had pre ordered it as soon as it was available and wow did I get that one wrong. What a donkey of a release that was, on par with Rome II.

Yeah, I was going to watch some to see if its any good, but then I pre-ordered anyway, so that reason went away. Might not be able to resist a little though. :-)

I ended up watching Quill till 9pm, only stepping away to stick the oven on and get some food on the go :D

There was 3 things that i think stood out the most, *based on that build*...
1) Unless you do something stupid, its very easy to make money and have lots of it, without too much effort. Its not particularly finely balanced. The 'hard mode' mod included might be the way to go, and theres always the probability that because its mod-able people will create their versions of whats challenging and you can find one that suits your desire.

2) Traffic is a challenge! So it should be really. I think a lot of Quills issues stemmed from always trying to build right off the primary highway.
Theres a reason why we have tons of motorways, and they branch off each other, and Quill didnt seem to bother running any motorways into the middle of cities, they all had to come off 1 motorway at one of 3-4 1-lane off-ramps and then trek through the cities. Running a motorway closer to a number of destinations, would save a lot of the traffic issues.
Dont get me started on his trains :D

3) 1 million population looks 1 million miles from being an issue. In 7 hours of live-streaming, albeit fairly slow (fast speed, just done rather methodically & casually) and i dont think he went beyond 50k (mid-low 50k), 5% of the games capability.

Seems very encouraging Paul. Whilst we are not sure what balancing issues have been addressed in the game since their version, and perhaps a day 1 patch (?), it would be great if that was the only concern.
Seems good regarding the population "limits".

@Fergie some of us have bought it from Nuuvem for just under £12 for the std edition. Go back a page or so and you'll see other options and discussions of the merits / concerns on buying a Steam key from Nuuvem.

IIRC Paul has promised to refund us all if the Nuuvem option doesn't work :D

I heard a lot of other streamers gave up because people kept leaving their cities, so it can't be that easy (or maybe they were just that bad, I don't know I only really watched Quill)!

Tried to add it to my cart from Nuuvem and it said it was locked for my region!:(

Strange as I made an account from the UK and bought and paid for it by Paypal without and VPN etc.

Yeah, Nuuvem says its region locked when adding to cart now. I'll contact TotalyMoo and see what he says, cos he recommended it to someone in India, and he's said its an official seller.

Nuuvem is cheapest (if it works), then GMG with the VIP at £16ish apparently. Cant argue with that price though.

My concern with using Nuuvem is that even if Paradox replaced the key with a new global/EU one, it wouldnt happen particularly quickly. £16 for the deluxe and uncertainty, or £16 for the standard without any concerns. The difference being 5 plopable landmarks, which it wouldnt surprise me if they were modded in later anyway, along with other landmarks.

For those who dont want to use nuveem, GMG still have it for £16.78 in the VIP section.

I've avoided videos but having read lots of comments from those who've watched them it all seems very positive! :)

Let us know regarding the Nuuvem thing Paul, a bit miffed if it doesn't work out as Nuuvem usually block you if it is a region thing and you're not using a VPN.
A bit late in doing that now for those who bought it already.

You can still get a full refund from Nuuvem, their policy is that you can get a refund as long as you've not clicked to view the key, and as we've not even been given a key, a refund shouldnt be an issue at all.

Once i hear from Moo i'll post here. I've asked him to chase down whoever is responsible for these sort of things, because his comment had always been 'as far as i know its not region locked', so we need something concrete from Paradox, not guesswork. So it might not be as quick as he'd normally be on something, because he's got to find someone who'd know 100%.

Edit: Also, if he comes back saying its region free (i'd seen a Russian site selling a steam gift which 100% was locked to those areas) then i'll ask for assurances that if its not, they'll replace it within 24hrs. Not ideal, tbh for the same price (but dropping to standard edition) i'd rather lose the deluxe items and not spend Tuesday waiting for a response. If we got the keys before release that'd help too.

Hey!

They should be global keys, but not available for purchase outside their region, if that makes any sense. So generally there shouldn't be any activation issues if you do buy a key from Nuuvem but not sure if it's actually legal.

I always recommend buying from a retailer in your own region just to be sure.

Cheers, John

Not exactly crystal clear really. That said, he's saying they are global.

When will this game be released?

Next Tuesday, the 10th. Activating at around 5pm (whenever steam decides to active them, ultimately)

I've sent another PM to TotalyMoo. I suspect that those of us who have a pre-order already, will be perfectly fine. The fault is essentially with Nuuvem for not locking us out in the first place, and so the key everyone will receive is global, but really there shouldnt be a global marketplace for the key.

I just want to be sure, cos i know ive suggested Nuuvem, with the known caveats, but i dont want to be the reason people end up with region locked keys and nothing to play next Tuesday, it'll be frustrating enough not having it for myself.
