Cities: Skylines

why fix them when they are a very effective traffic calming measure, for free :D

Just built myself a sort of transport hub with air, blimp, metro, bus, rail and tram all converged into a single area. Seems to be working well, with feeder metro lines from a North, Central and South metro loop.
At least it is keeping the traffic right down.
It helps having no commercial or industry, around 152,000 pop as yet.

Reference the game running like crap, I started trying to ‘do youtube’ on This a few weeks back, y’know recording building cities and commentary over the top and watching the videos back (they are on YouTube under NooBish AbbZ) the screen lags so much at times :( Still recording at the moment though i don’t think i’ll Do another series just because of the lag :(

While i’m Actually playing the game though it looks and runs fine, except the odd freeze for a second or two while the game starts autosaving, and I am using a few mods; mainly 81 tile unlocker

I can't play this game, I've watched YouTube videos of strictoaster's cedar valley build, unfortunately after watching that, anything I try and do just looks crap in comparison.

That guy.... But he also has tons of mods and assets, must have taken him a long time just to configure his game, let alone then build a city.

But he is a genius no doubt.

I’ve just put the green cities dlc on. Any other dlc that’s worth it??

I read from some that Mass Transit and After Dark are worth buying. Then again I have them all, kinda disappointed with what Snowfall brought as I expected dynamic seasons rather than just a perm frost type map. My fault for not reading what it came with.

I take your point about the lag, sadly it is very difficult to watch with that.

Don't get overwhelmed by those who have, sometimes, thousands of hours playtime from this game. Others also use many mods to actually not need "play" the game, as such, but just design in absolute detail the most beautiful and creative of cities. For me I couldn't play that way, mainly due to my lack of patience at that level and absolutely no creative skills. But it does not stop me enjoying the game. Look on YT for Biffa and Sam Bur they do some pretty decent play vids without too much OTT detailing. Some on YT do play vids with a vanilla game.

Not played this for over a year, but I re-downloaded it again last night. One thing that used to frustrate me about the game was the traffic AI...it seemed completely hopeless at times, plenty of roadspace available yet all vehicles would sit in the same lane. It used to really wind me up when I'd spend ages planning in advance for high traffic volume but still ending up gridlocked. I don't think I was the only one with this complaint - has this been changed at all, or are there any mods which improve it?

I didn't notice how bad it was until I turned off the dynamic lane AI of one of the big traffic mods. I went from no congestion to a long line of vehicles using one of 8 lanes. Horrendous vanilla AI. Unfortunately it does take a good 20-30% extra CPU use which is a decent hit in an already big city (approx 200k).

Which mod was that? I only ever played the game in stock form, but the AI was the only thing that annoyed me, I'd like to try and mod it if possible.
