Cities: Skylines

Nice one thanks!

You're welcome
It is a great resource of info. With over 600 hours in playing this game I'm still learning stuff from there as well as some let's play vids on YT.

@wilhub You might also benefit from from that guide as well as some noted YT streamers.

Also this person does some pretty useful guides...

In fact check out the guide section for this game over at Steam. As they often come with screens, and sometimes videos they are very useful.....

Finished a night shift at 7am this morning and other than watching F1 Testing Notebook while I had breakfast, I've played this since i got home. Spent a lot of that time making 2 small transport hubs for my city, and the basis of a substantial motorway system to keep a huge oil-field industrial area connected. Population is at 25k with 2,200 of those using public transport :D, current profit is £24k a week; think the map is Eden Valley. ******* love this game :D Will take a couple screenshots through Gyazo in a moment.

Thanks Vimes I'll have a ready of it. In the meantime I've added another outside connection via rail, I have 4 freight terminals one in a commercial area and one which is a shipping terminal. I plan on connecting the road too. My sleep is messed up I'm on 11-18:30 shifts at work, I intend on going to be at 11pm, however it's half 10 and next second when I'm playing Cities I look up and it's 1AM!!!!

I'm wanting to play Kingdom Come and Fallout 4 aswell as Resident Evil but this game just takes up too much time :P

Since this thread has been revived - I've also been playing this more :p

Do you guys have any of the "expansion packs" at all? I'm currently playing the original without any mods or add ons - Am I missing out?

@Marky ......

https://skylines.paradoxwikis.com/Downloadable_content

I have all the DLC's except for some of the music type, like the radio and concert ones.
You can read what they add to the game. Difficult for me to say what they are worth as I haven't played without them since they were released. But reading what they add I'm glad that I do have them. The most expensive for me was Green Cities but I like its content.
But Natural Disasters doesn't do much for me, I need no help in destroying my city.
It will be good to see some of your screens Noobish and I agree, with you also willhub, you can sink hours into this game, sometimes coming away with achieving very little....!

As i say, early in the city. I added in the motorway this morning as If you look to the bottom right hand corner of the inner sort of triangle, i had a 4 road avenue simply joining there from the cargo hub which was causing traffic issues. Second image shows that now there's literally the odd truck going from the cargo hub into the city in that direction. The vast majority are immediately on to the motorway system.

Final image shows the two 'hubs'. Neither of them are anything of huge significance but they're working very well for me so far. I have one tram line(the purple) simply shuttle between the two hubs. Various bus lines to the bottom half of my city which all have stops near to the other tram lines (cyan and greeny-blue) which then come through the hub. Then from the other hub i have a single yellow line which covers the three other towns i have so far which stops at the hub between each town. Again, other towns have bus lines with stops near to the tram line :)

Sorry if they're a little big. :)

Those are good screens and you have some good potential for growth and expansion there :)

I like the motorway that you added, it does remove a lot of traffic from becoming congested on that four lane avenue you had before.

This game at times is almost a traffic simulator, get that right and all the rest will slot into place...!

I like the yellow / purple hub to encourage a change for the Cims to swap from one part to another, do they use it that way....?

I use AVO to edit vehicle capacity and with around 225k Cims my transport hub is a touch bigger. :D

Currently playing the Icy Islands map that comes with the Snowfall DLC. Been stuck for inspiration for the 2nd tile I bought. Decided to make it my Central train station. Got strong demand for Residential, Commercial and Offices right now. Therefore looking to split the island between all 3 and have trams and pathways for getting around. I've finished tidying up the shoreline and putting the train lines in. Made myself a grid of dirt roads 24x24 to space out things properly. My first tile become a bit of a slum as its really overcrowded.

I have one of the public transport mods to adjust capacity but i can't remember the name of it, and yeah, a lot of switching happens at the second hub. I've not watched the purple hub in as much depth but i'll take a look now :)

These two gifs are directly after each other. Start of the first gif is lots of people getting off purple line and moving to one of the yellow stops, then second gif is one of the yellow trams arriving dropping people off who move to a purple stop, while original purples get on the yellow tram :)

Also just a single gif from the larger but probably quiter hub.

Have you got all the DLCs Vimes? Any Mods you'd recommend?

Narnia looks absolutely incredible - Ever consider a career in city planning? :p :D

@Marky, thank. No one would wish to end up living in my usual creations, think Gotham after a tsunami. This one sort of evolved more itself, as I often lack planning or vision.

Another person I know who plays this game doesn't use mods and has had cities of 500k plus. When I installed his saved game it actually performed better than my usual ones do at much less than half that population. The difference being is the overall effect that many mods can have on the games performance. Even traffic mods like TMPE, depending on the settings used, does compromise the way the game runs. That difference grows with the size of the city.
Also if you become dependant on mods like TMPE to fix your traffic problems then you are not really understanding how the game manages its own traffic, which can be coped with - not that I'm good at that.
There is a person on YT called 1JasonBradly and it is worth watching is few videos on traffic management.
But without really wanting to come across as a hypocrite I do enjoy the game much better with the use of mods that I know have a performance impact, some more than others. But they are fun for me to use. I'll list some here....

Also just because I list them doesn't mean they are right or appropriate for you.

Take a look at YT, some names listed in here, and sometimes they will post a mod list on the first of their series. Or ask them for one. Also read about what the mods do from Steam and in the comments.

Also YT is good for a "how to" like.....

Maybe others here can add their used mods ....?
