City Fibre

My Giganet got installed today. £40 a month no contract. 900mb up/down.

Been doing WiFi tests all day can't get above 300mb down and about 500mb up.

Now I know WiFi isn't going to top out but I thought I'd get more than that.

Worst is homeplugs, not sure what speeds they are but was only getting 100mb up/down with them so went back to WiFi.

Should I be expecting faster over the WiFi?
Too many variables to accurately test. What are you testing it on? What device? Can you connect to your router IP address and see stats on connected speed?

Do CityFibre provide an ONT with multiple ports or just one?
Just one, it's the Calix 801G v2

Sounds about right for AC wifi

Yea that's what I'd expect, I get around 400-500 on WiFi w/ AC1200. If I need faster I plug straight in... Or I'd switch to WiFi 6E.
Powerlines won't go much faster, your best running a direct link with ethernet.

Interesting, so maybe CityFibre can't transfer from one reseller to another at the moment and this is why a full cease of the service is required.
Must be... seems very backward to me though to do it this way. if I didn't have Virgin Media as a back up I would have no internet over xmas. If it is the case they need to sort it out going forward as people will always want to change ISP. No One customer service is first rate compared to Giganet thus far. Lets hope they actually disconnect me tomorrow so I can place an order.

If you like the customer service with No One why do you want to change to Giganet?

Did you do some ping tests so you can compare your latency between the two providers after aswell?
Yes done plenty of speed and ping tests to compare the two. No One were pretty good as far as latency were concerned, but downloads weren't amazing from legit sorces and p2p was definitely throttled. Not that that was a big deal as I rarely use it, but don't like a company that throttles anything. While I still have Virgin Media as a backup nows the time to try and find the best full fibre isp. Giganet might be worse and if they are ill try another.

I'm hoping for a better Internet service, maybe lower latency and no throttling. Great customer service is a wonderful thing if you have issues, but if the product works properly you don't need it and it doesn't really matter. While ai have Virgin still now is the time for me to experiment and find the best service as you will get down time on the city fibre network every time you change isp. Giganet and N One have confirmed this for me.
This is transcript!

That is correct, when you place a CF order if it sees an order already it wont let you place the order slightly bonkers! Its ew to CF and the process is being ironed out.. It is a real manual process for the ISP

Have finally managed to get a response from Giganet.

They've now advised me my order was cancelled, so I have to re order and go through another credit check.

Now, what I will say is that at one point I did say that if they couldn't give me a go live date, to cancel my order. But I never actually confirmed a cancellation via email (which they requested) - I even called a few days later to ask for a go live date again, at which point they gave one. At this point, I explicitly said that I don't need it cancelling, and have called many times since asking for updates.

My goodness, getting any clear information from them is an absolute joke - I would say worse than Virgin Media. Nobody seems to have a clue what is going on.

I'm glad it's not just me that thinks their customer service is crap, more than that it's the can't be bothered attitude I got from them. I will try them out now anyway as No One will cease at 12 tonight. Who knows how much sense I will get out of Giganet though. If these are rubbish I'll move on to Vfast as they are a more local ISP. My sister has Trooli and they seem really good, shame they are not here where I live they seem to be in smaller Villages only.

Really, surprised you had so much grief. I ordered my Giganet about 2 weeks ago on Thursday 8th December. Booked for install in the Monday 12th December. I got stranded in the snow and couldn't get home for the appointment on 12th. Called them up, rearranged for yesterday. No issues at all with them replying or adivising what was happening.

mr griffin I am just outside Eastbourne.

To be fair they have gone up a little in my estimations, customer service wise. I got a call from them today saying when my current broadband finishes at 12 tonight they will try and fast track my re-connection. We're see what happens.

I’ve had it confirmed by someone worked for Cityfibre up to the end of November. There is currently no method or process to transfer from one provider to another when both use the Cityfibre network Without ceasing the service first.

Yep that's what I said earlier on in the thread. There is no process for easy migration, you have to cease supply then you can order a new one.

Today I have finally been cut off by City Fibre with No One and Giganet have taken my order! I'm hoping that seeing all I need is to be switched on it shouldn't take too long. At this point though nothing would surprise me though.
