City Fibre

Credit where credit is due, the customer service I've received over the last 2 days has been excellent by Giganet. Got me up and running early too so I have fibre over Xmas. Will do some testing on it later. One weird thing is that when I go to the www.speedtest.net it shows my ISP as Talktalk?. I wasn't expecting that lol

Yeah I asked the same,

Good afternoon Matt,

Potentially if you or a previous owner of the property has had a TalkTalk line in the past at the address Ookla can latch onto that,

You should be able to manually change your server on the website to giganet.

Kind regards,
Harrison

We never had talktalk in the 12 years we have lived here. Always been on virgin media. I'm not worried about it anyway just wasn't expecting to see that.
did a quick speed test and result was excellent ping 5ms download 943,00 Mbps upload 922.03 Mbps

Thanks - any CF providers use DHCP?
I believe TalkTalk is DHCP on CityFibre.

Also hear Yayzi, Air Broadband, Fibre Connect also use DHCP. But you'll have to see if they're available in your area.
You can easily check all the ISP's which are currently live in your area from https://cityfibre.com/

Edit: TalkTalk prices actually seem pretty good atm:

The only thing that would put me off is they don't seem to offer very fast upload speeds compared with other providers on City Fibre 109-112Mb/s upload, For £4 more a month can get 900+ each way

It's 940 (symmetric) aswell afaik, the site's just incorrectly labelled as it just follows OR's speeds

Saw about 10 guys in bright orange/yellow coats with City Fibre on wandering around our road and estate. That was 2 weeks ago, today got an email saying city fibre is coming to our area. We already had Virgin fibre laid down fair few years ago now (but they didnt connect my house up as its 15 metres from the pavement so didnt put a junction box at the end of our shared drive and also never asked me about it at all) so will be interesting to see what City Fibre do. I`m half expecting them to do the same and miss us out completely again. We are also meant to get BT FTTP by end of 2024 and by coincidence my BT contract is tied into 2024. The City Fibre rollout must come under Leeds as we are smack bang on the border of Leeds/Wakefield so we have Wakefield Address, Postcode and Telephone number but we come under Leeds Council not Wakefield.

Wonder why the ISP shows up as TalkTalk

Out of the blue, I've received a Giganet router...

Honestly, I've never dealt with such a disjointed company - there's nowhere to view the status of my order, and every time I get in touch with them, they tell me something different.

Thankfully, I already have a (mostly) working FTTP line from BT, it's only the router which has caused me hassle since having the service (think I'm on my 3rd or 4th replacement now) - so I'm finding this situation more funny than anything.
