City Fibre

CF for approaching 2 months now are stuck on "we have finished works, but we have no ISPs for you to connect to, but we will add options soon"

No response from a query I asked for how long is soon.

I've been with No One for a month now and am really happy with them. Its my second ever isp as I've been pretty much an NTL customer since back when you'd get 2hrs free dial up. So I was a bit nervous moving away as I rely on Internet for working from home. Been a rock solid connection and the speeds are inside. Also WiFi 6 was definitely a surprising side effect of the move.

We got providers but our area has been stuck on ”Performing final checks in your area” for least a month now, so gave up an ordered OR as symmetrical isn’t a must for me and I hear or horror stories of ISP switching where CF need to disconnect the line in FEX completely before it can be moved to another ISP.

Essentially in 12 months time I have more options for FTTP (CF or OR).

CF don't touch anything in any FEX as they are using their own dedicated fibre that they have laid, so there are no issues when switching. Unless you are using an ISP that will take on you old analogue phone line, which is noting to do with CF as that's all down to the chosen ISP. City fibre as far as broadband is concerned are fine.

It was recommended to me from the folks here and it was a super smooth experience switching to No One.

You also get a static IP for free and they don't crank up the price mid contract either. They use a Mercku 6a router which is WiFi 6 which has been rock solid. And this is me coming from a Virgin cable modem with an Asus router which was a bit patchy.

Maybe I could have worded it better, yes they own the FEX(s), What I meant is if your are changing for example from Zen CF to Vodafone CF, the service has to be terminated completely before Vodafone can order that fibre. Now I presumed that meant a disconnection in the FEX, but I guess it’s all SDN from CF point, but it must be disconnected for a period before it can be reused.

Have a google and multiple people are saying that you can’t order CF from ISP B if ISP A is still active (how true this is up and down the country, I don’t know and can’t verify this as I don’t have active CF in place), but more than one person is indicating this.

Whereas OR, can switch same day from one provider to another and ISP B can put the order request in before ISP A is terminated. (Same day as in activate after old ISP disconnects, not meaning place order and same day working)

I switched CF providers and it took around 6 hours in total fort the switch to fully go through. Just have to make sure the new ISP have your cancelletion date from the previous ISP.

Bear in mind other parts of my city have ISPs, but that is what it says for my street, so there is a chance you will see the same after the performing final checks (wheat I posted is after final checks). Some areas do go straight past the no isp stage though.

My contract is up and think I'm finally gonna ditch VM.

I can get City Fibre now and there's tonnes of options, No One seems to be mentioned a few times, is that a good choice? Not changed internet provider for like 10 years!

Yes, No One are an excellent choice.

please can you share why you feel no one is an excellent option please ?
When I check out their information they appear to be a small isp with limited peering.

I’m not saying small isps are bad due to being small, just would be keen for more context on why people feel so strongly about no one.

Thanks

Static IP, UK support which is kinda important if you need them. Great wifi 6 router as standard with option to purchase mesh as well. I had a seamless install within a few weeks of signing up.
