Civilization V

So what difficulty do you folks tend to play on?
Things either go awful or enough to scrape by when I play on King so I quite often play on Prince. Haven't been brave enough to try higher ones :(

I'm starting to rule in Prince level these days, but with the expac expect a new learning curve. It seems the Barbs are smarter now, also the will attack your Cities. Not confirmed if you lose them to them or they just ran sack it now.

Now that you have dig sites now for ancient battles (ie your Barb kill locations) they are a bit smarter then the average Bear it seems now.

Barbarians have always been able to attack cities, they've just been very wary of doing it pre-BNW for some reason. There is an achievement for having a city fall to Barbarians, all it does is take a certain amount of money from your treasury, they don't overtake it like a Civ would. I didn't even mean to have it done to me, I was just completely oblivious to them and then bam had about 3 of their units sack one of my fresh spawn cities, made for a good chuckle. :p

On anything higher than Prince, I'm consistently getting creamed. I'm just not as good as I think I am...

Don't worry about it I think a lot of us struggle with the difficulty. For game with so such a wide range of difficulty settings the scaling of in game difficulty between one level and the next seems huge. It was bad enough going from level 3 to Prince god knows what Deity difficulty must be like.

I think the top levels are only for those that know the game mechanics inside out, I'm pretty sure in the description before starting it says they are for the best players in the world :). Not me then haha.

Glad I'm not the only one that struggles beyond Prince :).

Managed to win on King yesterday playing purely defensively as Ethiopia. 2 large cities and one small. Only 1 minor war to push somebody back then they ran off with tails between the legs. Won via space victory but 10 more turns also had me a culture win.
Was quite pleased.

Has anyone else had issues with winning using the G&K leaders not unlocking the achievement to say you've won as them? Happened to me several times now.

I was playing at and beating (sometimes) Immortal difficulty but haven't touched CiV since last year.

I don't know too much about this new expansion but was thinking of getting back into CiV again, so this gives me perfect incentive.

Actually chaps if you have a Mac the Brave New World version is all ready available on it.

I was playing a bit last night. The only thing I'm really missing is the Steam Workshop. I really want those mods that allow me to chap the era/tech so I don't go into the Post industrial/modern era.

Just got my Brave New World key from GMG. Registered fine, shows up as DLC in Steam. Only loads as G&K though, guess they won't release the files until tomorrow :/

Just cancelled Amazon pre-order (£16) which wasn't going to arrive until Monday. Decided I couldn't wait, and could afford the extra £1.99 to order from gmg. :D

I feel like a child again!
