Trade routes are fantastic, and as I'm getting more familiar with tourism and the new culture side I'm starting to really like those too. Loving Venice as a new Civ, when I first saw the "Cannot build or gain Settlers" I thought that was just so bad, but it's not too bad for what they get in benefits.

Is the expansion any good then? What are people's opinions?

It's fantastic IMO. On top of the trade routes (Which is the 3rd best bit IMO) which bring in gold/science/religious pressure which adds an economic income to you and the other nation. I find this may have an influence on if other Civ might chose to go to war with you, as the Prince game I played last night no one went to war with me at all (going for the Culture Victory).

Which is where we come to (joint 1st bit IMO) the tourism - replaces Utopia project in Culture Victory. To get tourism, treated as an attack on other Civs culture, this can be powerful for causing revolution in other civs, making them adopt your Ideology (which is the last social policy containing bundle/choice of Order/Freedom/Fascism and 2 new social policies have been added for exploration (money and sea) and Aesthetics (culture based)). I really like this as now tourism really is a weapon against cultureless fascists, however, if the other civ has strong culture/tourism one will need some heavy multipliers to win (I failed by a few turns last night with Culture Vic as was Influential in 6/8 Civs - needed all). To get meaty tourism, once you get the right tech, make sure you build the archaeologists and get as many as you can out to as many sites around the world. Also, you will need to put your work in a building (either great writing, great music, art or what you found from your dig). You can get bonuses for filling out all slots with the some types of works in a building. You can also swap works with other civs (which I still have not figured out yet) - culturally there is a lot to explore, thats the main bits tho!

Finally the World congress is joint 1st (Must build factories and the Host civ must find all other Civs first). I like this as the diplomatic part of the game shines though and sucking up to cities states (for delegates), sending your spies out as Diplomats for voting info(plus free delegates with the right buff), trying to gain the Host seat (extra delegates) and applying restrictions/sanctions to almost ANYTHING i.e trade embargo with nation or embargo certain Luxury resource or make a world ideology or world religion or embargo trade with any Civ/city states or have World games (4-5 turn production comp with the winner getting 100% tourism bonus, plus 2nd and 3rd) or Nuclear proliferation act or the ISS....the list goes on...

You sure the other one hasn't gone into the dark land on your map? The places you've explored but don't have any units in, don't think caravans have any sight so if they go towards a city outside your unit/border site range you won't be able to see them.

Played a game as arabs earlier.

Expanded out quite early game so I had 3 cities, Indonesia thought it was a good idea to attack my capital, so after defending it from them I thought right I'm going to kick your ass from the game.

Gathered around 6 units, took 1 of his towns and his capital [he was still in the game].

I thought cool only 1 more and hes gone from the game, little did I know that my so called 'friends' were plotting against me (Netherlands, Byzantium and Persia).

So few turns after after taking Indonesia's towns I got absolutely steam rolled by NL, Byz and Persia. The only ones who I weren't at war with was the celts, lol.

I managed to defend it for a while but my god my capital was absolutely swarmed with units from the 3 factions, never seen it before. :D

The game does feel a lot better to play in BVW.
