Civilization V

Played a game as arabs earlier.

Expanded out quite early game so I had 3 cities, Indonesia thought it was a good idea to attack my capital, so after defending it from them I thought right I'm going to kick your ass from the game.

Gathered around 6 units, took 1 of his towns and his capital [he was still in the game].

I thought cool only 1 more and hes gone from the game, little did I know that my so called 'friends' were plotting against me (Netherlands, Byzantium and Persia).

So few turns after after taking Indonesia's towns I got absolutely steam rolled by NL, Byz and Persia. The only ones who I weren't at war with was the celts, lol.

I managed to defend it for a while but my god my capital was absolutely swarmed with units from the 3 factions, never seen it before. :D

The game does feel a lot better to play in BVW.

I had this happen as well, I was like what the hell

Worst is the AI now seems to know to keep back units and come at you in a large wave formation instead of drips and drabs.

I was minding my business playing as Native Americans, and selected liberty to expand quickly.

I figured since I was on good terms with the Celts and Songhai they wouldn't mind.
As soon as I hit my 4th city they both declared on me, even though my closest city wasn't anywhere near them. >:(

As noted by Defiant they seemed to keep back units, even outside of their borders. Thank goodness Mohawk warriors help them back really well.

I experienced first hand the AI coming at me with large numbers. William (Dutch) was at war with me at the very start of the game but me and my friend were also at war with 3 other Civs. We decided to get a peace treaty going while we fought our other battles. About 10 turns after the peace treaty is over he turns up outside my capital with 12-15 military units. It was already 2am at that point (isn't it always with Civ games) so we saved up and quit. I'm dreading going back to that game now

Even peaceful civilizations are entitled as hell, I've played one city challenges before where Civs like Ghandi & Kamehameha have coveted my lands, it's stupid. :p

If you built a city on a 1 tile island surrounded by zero resources they'd covet your ass.

There's nothing better than surrounding a Civ with a load of military force and them cowering when you demand their luxury resources off them. 'If that will keep the peace' - YE IT WILL MATE, NOW GIVE ME YOUR TRUFFLES!

I'm sick of seeing Gandhi's warmongering face. I manually add civs to my games now to avoid that bugger.

As said before that baldy always covets your lands. Hell I was in a tundra with nothing but furs and some horses and they bugger decided to invade just because I didn't want to give him my Only luxury resource.

Had to make an example of him in the end after he attacked me.

So I fight back and take one of his cities, and then I get denounced by him. After which several more civs denounce me.

I'm really not a bad guy at all. :(

Even Venice has it in for me now, simply because I pushed back defenders and raised their cities.

Yeah the AI is bad in diplomacy, I've had Carthage spam wars against me and begging for peace after a few turns each time so the final time I decided to say no to the treaty and eliminate her from the game.

'They believe you are a warmongering menace to the world' on every damn AI civs opinion, I hope they fixed that.

So far enjoying BNW a lot, though trade routes seem to skew the game in my favour a tad since I have so much gold to throw around - I may have to up the difficulty one step from my usual King.

Plus England seems to be very powerful with that extra spy early on, and since I prefer playing Continents too.. :p

The AI is smart to a point, as it does at least realize when I'm on the way to a science victory and as a result everyone starts denouncing me. Not that it helps since I was so far ahead economically and technologically that few could stand up to me aside from that swine Gustavus :D

To the guy above: They don't seem to have fixed that "warmongering menace" thing.. I had a giggle when it says that Shaka of the Zulus "hates warmongers" :p

Gandhi is a right warmongering piece of ****! I remember a game where we were allies right from the start, had tech agreements, helped each other out when attacked by other civs etc etc and then all of a sudden he declared war on me and then nuked me  Not once, but three times. Nuked by Gandhi!! :D

Can anyone tell me how to get more spies? I only have one but I need to butter up all the city states so I can remain the host of the world congress and be the most corrupt mother****er possible :D

Had quite a lot of fun going up against Pacal of the Mayans. I had 4 or 5 cities - everyone was loving me, wanting to be my friend until I decided to attack the city state of Zurich which Pacal was protecting. I got the usual denouncing and all was fine for about 30 turns.

Out of the blue Pacal attacks one of my towns, Atlanta - he manages to take it but I launch a counter attack and succeed in retaking my city. He immediately asks for a peace treaty which I agree to and everyone is friends again, but Pacal has a long memory.

All is quiet for about another 20 turns and then I see a huge army starting to surround Zurich. I don't have enough troops anywhere close to help, Pacal takes Zurich and again throws a peace treaty in front of me. The guy wasn't after all out war, he just wanted to liberate Zurich - I haven't seen that before.

Just finished my first game, my god was that boring! Playing as Polynesia on an archipelago map. Expanded quickly, had a small war early on which one of my allies dragged me in to then sat and clicked through about a thousand turns until I got a space victory. None of the Ai did anything beyond establish a max of 3 cities and then just sat there stagnating. I had about 30 cities, 100k gold and nothing to spend it on at the end.

Will give it another go but hope it's more involving at higher difficulties because that was a massive snooze fest! Could have eliminated everyone at pretty much any point but wanted to see what the tech tree was like.

Bloody Gandhi!

I really playing the game with mods such as the Ethnic Unit ones, but it bugs me I can't get some achievements on Steam.

Just lost to the AI with a science victory - thing is, I took his capital which was producing the spaceship, and had all the parts there, yet he still won?! What the hell is that about? Must be something I'm missing...

I was only two turns from a science vic. myself :(

Steam are now giving away a free copy of Civ IV to all those that pre-ordered Brave New World. This is to apologise for them putting BNW in the summer sale on day 1 of release at cheaper than the pre-order price.

I'd rather get the £4 into my steam wallet as I'll probably never play Civ IV but at least it's something and they acknowledged their mistake.
