Civilization V

Creates a pretty cool 'I'll scratch your back' vibe -- you find stuff out, if you tell them they will most likely share with you to.

My only hope for future patches is that religion is worked into the diplomacy, sharing the same religion giving positive bonuses, trying to forcefully spread religion having ramifications etc.

I don't know about the first, but the second already happens if the player you're spreading it to already has their own religion. I sent a few Missionaries to convert my heathen neighbours to the One True Faith and got a diplomatic "Oi, you!" for it.

There's honestly not much point to converting other civs like that, though, as one Inquisitor undoes everything and they can still found their own religion after converting to yours. The only time it makes a difference is in a game with more than seven civs; if you can fully convert another civ to your faith before they found their own then they generally can't do it before all seven religions are founded.

My biggest gripe with civ v (both vanilla and gods and kings) is that now the leaders are acting as if they are players instead of leaders. I loved in civ iv if you were really powerful, weaker countries would want to be vassal states. In civ v I cant even get a weaker civ who is about to get war declared on them to accept a defensive pact  . I also dont like how spys work. I normally try to get a hugh tech advantage, but it is impossible for me to defend all my cities from spys stealing tech. The only way I can is by building my wonders in only 2 to 3 cities to boost the ratings in only those cities and so the ai doesnt go for the others. I do think its cool to spy on other civs and how other leaders give you info on surprised attacks heading your way. Does anyone here know of a better way of stoping tech being stolen, without turning the option off.

I'd say thats an accurate representation of the world we live in :)

Not really. My example would be the same as the US and UK going to war with Iraq, and then the US and France going to war with the UK for being a warmongering menace in the world.

Theres very little accuracy or sense behind the actions of the AI in this game.

Russia :) more production iirc from strategic resources and more actual strategic resources also = big military

In G&K with the world set to max size (giving longer to learn), I'd actually go for Austria or Greece. Austria have the ability to annex City-States without conflict, while Greece lose influence with them more slowly. Carthage are also pretty damn good if you get a coastal location, as all their coastal cities get a free Harbour whether you have the required tech or not - this gives major early production boosts. Drive for Writing and the Great Library, and you should stay ahead in tech the whole game.

I've only just got this (played the demo for 4 hours) if anyone wants to play online and be kind enough to give me hints it'd be much appreciated :)

Hi gaijin, I have sent you a friend request so we can have a game if you like.

I have played a fair bit of vanilla Civ V when it first came out, so I'm interested in the new changes implemented in G+K.

Steam username is McSniz.

Cheers!

I've just started playing the Gods & Kings expansion pack and I have it set on 'Prince' and I'm finding it very slow going. Cities are a lot harder to take and Fraxis have nerfed the defensive bonus you get it your units are waiting outside and cites attacks hurt a lot more then before and units don't recover nearly as quickly as before either.

Also happiness seems to be a huge issue for me I've built all the happiness buildings for all of cities in the empire and each city bar one is linked to my capital yet my happiness fluctuates from +4 to -5 for little or no reason. I see bhavv has amassed +17 for happiness, any tips?

Also in the last screenshot I only had 2 cities, settled on a cotton and have gold improved. Happiness decreases with each city built, it sounds to me like your maybe expanding too fast. Also I had +17 happiness from an allied Mercantile city state, these have two new luxury resources, porcelain and jewelry and they provide double happiness over regular luxury resources, only way to get them is by allying mercantile city states.

If you dont have riverside city locations, then theres a Pantheon that gives +1 :) in size 6 cities, a belief that gives +1 :) from shrines instead of peace gardens, and then add two religious buildings for the enhancer beliefs - Pagoda plus either Mosques or Cathedrals. If you have a map with lots of riverside locations, then that 'Divine Waterfalls' religion is superb for happiness.

well, steam went and lost connection after a couple hours of gameplay, it should have saved as I do it every so often, it was a multiplayer game so we should be able to "hop" back in shouldn't we?
