I passed 200 hours played on Civ 6 last night, its still rough around the edges but I thoroughly enjoy it. I play it on multiplayer with the missus, we do Marathon, Giant map, Small Continents or Fractal, using the Detailed Worlds mod.

So I feel like I'm missing something. I'm in the Modern era on my first ever run-through having not played a Civ since the early days (20+ years ago??).

Here are just some things I'm seeing:

- Other Civs and City-State units just move around randomly within a few tiles with no clear purpose.
- Other Civs seem to repeatedly denounce me, or declare war but don't do a single thing about it - Right now Sumeria has amassed an army at my border but have been there for maybe 50 turns and just jiggle their position every now and then.
- Other Civs repeatedly build Stonehenge (If I was to believe the notifications then there are a good 10-12 Stonehenges dotted around the map), literally not seen a notification for any other Wonder having been built and my progress as such hasn't been hindered.
- There are some quite serious graphical glitches in the ocean, little perfect squares popping up everywhere, worse the more you zoom in.
- I can't break an Escort Formation link, it always crashes the game.

All in all like I said I feel like I'm missing something - Even if you ignore the above problems I'm just pressing Next Turn and picking something new to build or research with no intelligent opposition (I suppose I'm only about half way down the difficulty list but still) - I'm honestly trying to love the game as the concept is excellent but right now I'm struggling to see the point.

Is this just not a game for me folks or has a key concept not clicked in my head? I feel like I've paid £45 for a game that is in Alpha.

I've seen this, the AI needs work (which to be fair has always been the case in the Civ games, there are already some mods out which improve things)

I havent had any of these things happen in over 200 hours now, those ones are oddities it seems

If you do not right-click to dismiss the notification it repeats itself. I had this issue until i started to dismiss them...issue gone!

Gave another try to the game. Nope. Marathon speed is still affecting only the player not the AI.
Turn 20 on Marathon speed, the AI nation next to me has 8 warrior units and produced two settlers and one scout also, while I cannot even build my second unit by then.

AI always has advantages. Play above Prince difficulty and cheat mode starts kicking in.

Marathon is speed setting not difficulty.
No other CIV (or BE, Col) had broken epic & marathon speed modes, regardless if you played Prince or Deity

If I set it to standard speed, at 20 turns, the AI has the same units count, but I build mine at less than half the time.

As above if it's what I'm thinking then you should see a series of dots in that notification window that you can scroll through for all the different wonders that've been completed - it's just that Stonehenge was first and so comes up again each time another is added to that notification.

Right click them to dismiss and you should see all the other wonders come up one by one!

Thats pretty weird, me and the missus play every game on Marathon (emperor difficulty) and we've not seen that in any of our games. We've seen the AI have maybe 5 units and a couple of scouts but on Emperor the AI starts with 3 warriors and 2 settlers anyway, so not overly surprised to see them with a couple extra warriors at that point, but we havent seen them having 8 warriors after 20 turns on a lower level , although to be fair we only play on emperor so wouldnt have anyway

Its more like something is wrong with the balance all my friends have gave up on Civ for a while as the AI is so broken. Even on the hardest difficulty its a walk over. I was playing a multiplayer game doing terrible and I was still ahead of every single AI on the 2nd to hardest difficulty. Games keep turning into a click fest of end turn, wait end turn wait with 100's of pointless messages every turn. I would give civ 6 a break for a few months, let it get a few patch's to sort out all the problems.

Is this worth picking up? Price is coming down and the early bugs are presumably squashed. Civ 5 was awful at launch!

Any word on expansion packs or is it a bit too early days?

Tough to say really, I put thousands of hours into earlier versions of Civ and I am already past 200 hours on Civ6. Thing is, thats with it needing work ! The fact that I am enjoying it so much without some things being fixed bodes very well for me because it means when they are fixed, I will like it even more , so at the moment, the missus and I can have loads of fun multiplayering it, safe in the knowledge that its going to be even better later on. Its a win - win for us :)

But I also know that many arent enjoying it as much as us, hence its tough to say
