Clash of Clans

I'm very slowly building things up. I'm at town hall level 7 now. Started building my dark barracks so that should be fun!

There was an update this morning and as the game is 2 years old you can double resource production for an entire week for just 1 gem per collector!

Edit: in other news, I just got my barbarian king :)

In a 3 minute raid I normally wait till the raid is well established, about a minute in before sending him in to clean up. Stops him taking the brunt of the defence on his own.

There have been some unhappy people in the clan recently, all with the same feeling in that we have a few too many freeloaders who do not contribute much (in some cases, at all) to the clan. Therefore we have had a small cull tonight.

People seem to be particularly unhappy (myself included) with those who are not participating in wars, it is to the detriment of those that spend the resources on attacking if you continuously choose not too. After all, it isn't that hard to get 2 attacks in, in the space of 24 hours.

So... as the clan description says... all members must go to war.

The clan description also clearly says all members donate.

I understand that it isn't always possible to chat if you are busy, but donating isn't difficult.

Those that continue to not participate risk being kicked, those that have been kicked are welcome back if they wish to participate and contribute more to the clan.

I joined another clan which is actually local to where I live. I feel much more welcome there, seems a lot friendlier.

I've been in the clan for over a year, starting as the new guy and the lowest level in the clan. People come and go but one thing remains true is that OcUK has always been a friendly community. People talk and there is often some good banter. Everyone is always willing to help one another; ask a question you'll get an answer; if you ask for a particular troop you'll get them. Those that contribute in the same way will say the same thing - generally the clan works together. However there will always be 1 or 2 that don't, we're trying to sort that out.

But anyway, I'm happy you found a place that is right for you.

Hey Grinch, Silky here. I wanted to add my 2 cents.

OCUK is an awesome clan and I always get whatever troop I ask for 24/7. Can't as for more really.

There are a few things worth considering though.

Regarding donation ratios. For those of us that don't use wizards as our regular attacking troop, and for those of us who are farming a lot of gold, it is hard to maintain a positive ratio. I donate whenever I can, but its usually 5 archers. At the same time, someone else will donate 5 wizards (20 housing spaces). I'd love to donate more and I do cook wizards whenever I have some downtime that I know I wont be farming, but just bear it in mind when looking at some people's ratios. Mine has always been negative except for once I think, for example. Yet I am pretty active.

Regarding clanwars, I've played other multiplayer games with casual clans before and there is always an issue of how serious to take it. I'm pretty competitive personally and always want to win. So I'm usually the one trying to explain to people how to play more competitively. The thing is, clash of clans has a very poor communications platform. Most games I've played using teamspeak and coordination and training are much easier.

Take the thing where people don't lure our clan castle troops. That's very normal as a beginner but also such an easy thing to train people. Why is it that we as a clan still have these issues? I think its because it's so hard to communicate with people. AFAIK we can't send direct messages in COC. Maybe we should PM people on the forums, in order to make sure they read.

As for not enough people attacking, there are two things. First when we are getting hammered by a huge margin and its obvious we are going to lose, most people (myself included) have little motivation to attack. The issue is that sometimes it isn't obvious we are going to lose (we might just be 25 points behind with many attacks in hand). However, in every one of these cases that I've witnessed, we were against much stronger clans than us.

I think it would be good to have some senior person be able to throw in the towel officially. If there is an hour to go and we are down 50 points against a stronger clan, there is not point in attacking. It just wasted elixir and DE. Yet some people do it out of a sense of loyalty or doing their part. My opinion is that this is flawed logic and the clan would benefit more from them conserving their resources & time, and improving their base etc.

I guess it comes down to a discipline factor though. If you take such an approach, you need to have everyone willing to attack when called to do so. Right now, it feels like there is a core group that attacks twice all the time, a group that never/rarely attacks (we can kick these) and a group that attacks when they think we will win. Controlling and winning over the third group seems to be the key to victory.

I will say though, that in my experience in other games, its usually the hardcore players that have to go down to the glory hunter group level, rather than bringing the glory hunters up to the hardcore level. You can't force people that don't wanna be hardcore players to be hardcore players.

I'm not telling you how to run the clan here, just offering some insights as to why things might be happening.

If in clan wars you gotta use both your attacks. If you can't commit to that then we kick and then reinvite once queued for war (Solar Rising). Some people don't like the competative nature of clan wars and the sooner a simple "opt out" option is introduced the better.

I'm always happy to hear input from clan members, we need more of it tbh.

Yeah, I totally get that, I find it hard too, especially when I'm barching a lot and giving out 5 a time while asking for 35. So that is generally ignored and taken into consideration. It's those that contribute nothing that generally riles members.

Yep, absolutely, one of the things I hate most about CoC is the communications, it's ridiculous, however I can see why supercell want to keep it simple... less hassle! However as a clan, it's crazy. Open to suggestions on what we can do here, but I'm afraid the casual nature of both the clan and the game will make this almost impossible to solve. Really it's up to supercell.

We have tried this before, myself, Sam and perhaps one or two others have posted tips for attacking a few pages back, we then made people aware of these posts in game. Some people came, looked, commented and took it on board, the majority didn't. Strangely, I think there are quite a few members who don't really use the forum. PM isn't a bad idea, but if you have a look at the spreadsheet in post 1, I don't even have all the members IDs! I have thought of setting up a simple webpage of tips just for the clan, but seeing as many don't seem to bother with the forum, I didn't really see the point.

Yeah, I understand this, I am one of those that always attacks regardless. The issue I have here is that people give up too easy sometimes, they see a huge lead and just think wth is the point, when if we all got our attacks in we might catch up and even win, it hasn't always been against stronger clans (many times I agree, yes). We have on a few occasions said enough is enough... however not through a clan wide message., which is perhaps something we need to consider doing.

Definitely, but not an easy task!

You are right there, I'm aware of this and I have suggested in the past that we split the clan into 2 smaller clans, a war clan and a casual clan where movement is freely done between the two. If you want to take part in the war, you jump over, if you don't you go to the casual clan. But nobody seemed to be keen on this idea.

I'm not telling you how to run the clan here, just offering some insights as to why things might be happening.

Silky

As I already said, I would much prefer people expressed their own ideas than having none at all. I've only been leader a few months and even then it was kind of thrust upon me, when Spitwrath quit. I don't like to think of myself as the leader as OcUK is a community and we have several co-leaders, I prefer to get the consensus of those who are logged in at the time but even so the final decisions do seem to end up with me. It's a hard life :p
