Cleaning with snow foam review

I also dont really understand it, perhaps I need the benefits explaining to me?

When I rinse my car off with a hose and then wash it with a decent shampoo and a washmit with 2 buckets, it removes *all* the dirt without introducing swirlmarks.

So what exactly would foam add other than an ability to post cool pictures on the internet?

the idea behind snowfoam is thus

1) you can leave it to do its stuff while you get on with other things - like cleaning the wheels. To get the same level of cleaning you'd have to spend a good 5 minutes properly pressure washing every inch of the car. Snow foaming takes about 1 minute and just leave it to dwell

2) its gentler on the paintwork. Pressure washing dirt and grime can just force it into places you dont want - like door shuts, and drive it into your LSP and potentially take some of it off.

3) it saves you missing spots as the foam slowly sides down the side dragging the road grime / grit / debris with it.

In practice it doesnt make that much of a difference. For me its more the ease + time thing more than anything else. Just spray on, leave to dwell, and get on with your wheels and grills etc.. with a detailing brush.

Foam loosens most of the dirt and makes it even easier to wipe the car down. All that crap you get at the bottom of your doors and the skirts are a pain without snow foam.

Most of it will fall off afterwards with the pressure washer once it's loose.

in which case just using a normal hose won't take that much stuff off the car

In which case it'll just end up in your buckets and in your wash mitt as you wash your car.

Its lots of small measures that build up to quite a big reduction in the ammount of swirls you inflict during your wash process.

As Rob said and it's less work for yourself too :)

However, I wouldn't just do a foam on it's own and then dry. The car would definatley need going over with the 2BM afterwards.

Its either snow foam then rise with water and just leave it to air dry for that quick winter clean

I usually find taking it for a quick air dry up the local dual carriageway gets rid of most of the water marks :D

or

use it instead of your pre wash with the hose.

get one then !

Its one of the best tools you can get for car washing.

Snow foaming is very energy saving as you just leave it to do its job.

Is that not a reason within itself ? :D;)

I don't understand people saying you always need to wash after snowfoaming like it's going to damage the paint or something if you don't.
Like MrLoL said for a quick winter clean it's fine, in fact as per my photos and vids above, the car was spotless when I finished, there was no need for further cleaning.

you need to wash if you intend to dry the car with a towell etc..

If you dry it like that, you'll just end up rubbing grime all over the car.

I don't pressure wash though.

You should, I don't buy into this snow nonsense but with a well waxes car a pressure washer will remove maybe 90% of the dirt before getting the wash mitt out.

This is what I do as well, despite owning a snow foam lance. The snow foam is great fun and looks cool but I didn't see any advantage over a normal pressure wash for taking dirt off whether before a clean or not. I love how you get pictures saying "Look at the dirt that has come off into the foam after a 15 minute soak" - this dirt would have been gone in 2 seconds with the normal lance!

But as I said as internet motoring forum fads go it's great because you can take cool pictures and they make you look and feel like a pro. They are a lot cheaper and have more impact visually than winter tyres anyway. ;)

100% disagree with you here, first time I used it on my car I left the door with out snow foam on. I then pressure washed the car down including the door, after it had all dried the rest of the car was gleaming the door was still dirty.

Interesting, well I have a filthy black car outside with months of caked on winter dirt so maybe this weekend I'll do a panel by panel comparism with pics.

I've got a foam lance and I can't decide either. I foamed the Evo at the weekend and it does remove a lot of crap quickly, but it isn't that amazing.

Still looks cool though :p

Aswell as the snow foam I always add some shampoo to the mixture as well to thicken it up and help it cling to the paint before it runs off. Also I don't really see foam as a 'one step clean' its more to do with reducing the contact with cars paint and thus reducing the amount of swirl marks etc.

Silly question, but do you have to get the car wet with hose/pressure washer before applying the snow foam? Or can you just apply the snow foam straight away onto a dry car?
