Cleaning with snow foam review

It's best to apply to a dry car so the foam can dwell longer, so the theory goes over at detailing world anyway.

this

the cleaning power of snow foam comes from it slowly sliding down the car, dragging the mud , dirt and grime with it

If you wet the car first, it just slides off quicker, defeating the object.

The snow foam is great fun and looks cool but I didn't see any advantage over a normal pressure wash for taking dirt off whether before a clean or not.

from what i've read the idea is the foam helps carry the dirt off the car , rather than a pressure washer forcing the dirt along the paint work to get it off, so it should help protect the paint work.

Ah ok, thanks for the info guys. Might see if I can be persuaded to pick up a Karcher one with some foam!

I had a nightmare with my foam lance, I'm at the point now where I'm trying to forget I ever wasted £50 on it.

Basically I got the lance from Autobrite along with 1L of Supa Snow foam, it went well and I enjoyed it, after I used up that litre I ordered 25L from AutoSmart, can't remember which of their foams it was. First few uses it was fine, then near the end of about my 4th ot 5th use of the AS foam it seemed to stop foaming, next time I used it the foam was useless watery and nothing like the shaving foam texture it used to have.

Autobrite told me to strip and clean it, I did this but didn't find find much dirt in it, they agreed to have it back, they cleaned it and sent it back, charging me £12, I tried it again but still the same, the flow seemed very restricted and the bit of foam was weak and watery. I returned it again and eventually got a new one, the new one worked fine for about 3 uses and then went the same way as my original one.

Is the foam solution some how damaging the lance?

I gave up long ago with it :(

What did you do after you were finished with it? It's supposedly best if you soak it in a clean bucket of water for a while afterwards, I put mine in a clean bucket of water, after I've finished foaming, then by the time, I've washed and dried the car it's ready to go back with all the other stuff in the shed.

I always clean out the soap from the bottle and run plain water through it.

When the first one went I tried soaking it in water with white vinegar but it didn't work.

just received my kit. does anyone have links to threads that explain how to set it up and use it

Put between half an inch, and an inch of snowfoam into the bottle, top up with warm water. You can put some car shampoo in if you wish. Attach lance to pressure washer, wind the dial all way to the minus, start spraying and alter both the dial on top to get a consistency that you want, and twist the nozzle to get the desired spray pattern. Leave it to dwell for a few minutes, you could clean the wheels in that time or have a cup of coffee. Pressure wash the foam off, then wash the car afterwards.

And like I said before clean out the lance and let it sit in a clean bucket of water after you're done.

does the dial control the thickness of the foam

does the dial control the thickness of the foam

Yes, I put the dial to full minus for maximum foamage, then put 100ml of foam into the bottle and I top up with 300ml of water to give me 400ml in total.
I'm not sure why people fill the bottle right up as 400ml of mix in the bottle gives me roughly 40 - 50 secs (total guess) of foam time which is enough to cover the car.
Some people fill the bottle right up and have the dial set to a weak pickup and wonder why they get rubbish foam.

full minus? surely that draws up less from the bottle? I use full plus, which means it empties the bottle in no time at all..

Just bought my lance and 10l of snow foam.

Bit rubbish to be honest. My car wasn't massively dirty, certainly nothing like the OP but it had a couple of weeks of muck on it. I wet the car, covered in snow foam, left for 5 mins while I had a cuppa then rinsed it off with the jetwash. Hardly shifted a thing.

It's fun to use and my car looked quite cool covered in white foam but doesn't seem to do a great deal.

You wet the car? Thats where you went wrong and you only left it for 5 minutes...Spray it on to the dry car and leave for 10-15.

Tried this the other day, worked great for me!

Stuck to the car like **** to a shovel. Applied it and went to fiddle with my new bike carrier and get some food, came back 50 minutes later to find some of it still clinging before I power washed it off.

I love it because I'm ultra lazy when it comes to washing a car that is nothing special to look at :p

Try it dry. The idea is that it clings, softens and then starts to drop off.

Going onto a wet surface will stop it clinging to the crud.

that and have a play around with the mix.

Some people add a capful of car shampoo to the mix to give it extra cleaning power.
