COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

Does this work yet?

I've tried to play Campaign a few times, and it is unplayable. This is on a E6300 @2.8GHz, 2GB or ram and an ATi 4890.
 
If theyre close enough that the knife "lunge" kicks in then they do seem to just zip through your shots and get the cheap kill in.

yea the knife sucks, i do not know why they make the knife zoom forwards like that, seems like of stupid. The best knife is the counter strike knife that takes loads of hits before the person dies or if you use secondary it is very slow but can take one or two hits.

The 1 hit kill isn't the problem. Its the combination of the ridiculous heat seeking lunge and the fact the knife isn't a weapon in its own right and is instead just an instakill button. If you actually had to switch to the knife, which would take considerably longer than it does at the moment, knife wouldn't be anywhere near as bad.

I agree somewhat.

the Knife is ok, yet I agree the lunge is pretty awful but again it's made for consoles so they need some kind of aim assist, which is built into the engine. Also brings out the leet kiddies who think because they can rack up the kills that they have "skill".

You just have to remind yourself, it's an arcade shooter with lots of aim assist, just play for fun. theirs not really need for much balancing as it's so unbalanced you'd need a lot of changes to fix this.

Yes, Windows 7. I don't know of any fixes, so no, other than adding a few graphics tweaks to the config.
Not sure if this has already been said. It looks like they have found a fix for the stuttering, although i still have to do snd_restart at the start of every map to prevent the sound from being broken. The stuttering is gone for me.

Windows 7 only, Go to control panel, sound options and then right click go to properties of your default device.

Untick where it is highlighted in yellow and set the default quality to 48khz dvd quality. I can even set the fov to 80 now and it dose not glitch when i run or shoot someone, except for usual lag.
 
Some of the in progress fixes on the way for pc:

• Improvements to the spawn system to resolve an issue where negative spawn influencers from specific game events were not always being deleted after the danger had cleared – in some matches, this was causing good spawns to be erroneously flagged by the game as bad spawns, which in turn forced actual bad spawns to get selected later in the match
• Weekly and Monthly leaderboards will now track all kills, deaths and assists properly (All Time leaderboards were not affected by this)
• Prevention of killstreak selection getting disabled in Combat Training under rare conditions
• Array: Added collision to prevent players from partially clipping into a tree
• Launch: Added collision to prevent players from strafe jumping onto an invisible ledge at the base of the rocket near B3
• Summit: Added collision to prevent players from jumping to a location outside of the map boundary when in Custom Games where player speed is maxed out

• Some users reported that weapon attachment challenges were not resetting after prestige; now all are guaranteed to clear as soon as selecting the prestige option
• Radar sweep when there are only 2 players left in One in the Chamber will stop functioning if the 2 players have multiple lives when the sweep starts
• Villa: User can clip into rock at west edge of grid zone B2 and see through to the other side
• Crisis: User can clip into LVT between grid zone A3 and B3 and see through to the other side
• User can get an infinite number of 'Sam Turret', 'Care Package' and 'Sentry Gun' killstreaks (commonly referred to as the “care package glitch”)
 
Anyone else sick and tired of getting 'knifed' from the other side of a pretty large room? Ludicrous design decisions.
 
Yes i think they need to remove the lung on knifes. They say this game does not have commando. I disagree because the knife lung is more or less commando.
 
Tried the above sound fix, and it seems slightly better - it is still terrible. I played for two checkpoints and gave up when it froze.
 
I'm upgrading my pc tomorrow. I want to keep all my settings \ achievements etc. Is it all held on the Activision servers and will be restored when I reinstall or do I have to back up some kind of folder then copy and paste over?

Far as i know just like mw2 all that is kept on their servers. Only thing you'd need to save is your sp save files.
 
Ok played the online for about a couple days. Tubing is still incredibly gay, sniping is thin on the ground, those RC cars are an annoying inclusion (its basically remote controlled noob tubing), the maps are pretty good if a little cluttered, weapons sound a bit naff, having actual servers is so much better (keep expecting the host to rage quit after being shot, 3 times a game...). Overall I like it, doesnt seem to flow the same as MW2 but its maybe due to not knowing the maps very well and still not finding my perfect setup.

Been playing on TFU servers mostly (quite possibly youve killed me many times whilst im wandering around getting lost again and again). Will keep going and see how it goes but why have they enabled people to carry so much exploding crap that requires no skill or thought to use, rewarding the idiots and punishing the people who actually want to play an fps.
