COD Black Ops looks pretty good on PC

Has TFU got a 24/7 Nuketown Dem or Dom mode? Gone up from 40 to 47 in an afternoon!

Been playing it a lot! Also, Array 24/7 for L96 action

Yeah, could you make it a Dem game mode please, the spawn on Nuketown TDM is messed up and are too short.

Because they wanted to give people dedicated servers without losing too much of that ridiculous iron grip that the 'reason' behind the lobby system in MW2. Seriously i don't remember hearing about any sort of bull**** experience hacking in MW yet MW2 and BO were full of it and these were the games they tried to limit modding to 'protect the users experience'

Treyarch have announced that they will be adding mod tools post-release but I think it will all be unranked. I really hate steam games now- shoddy VAC and makes it such a 'tight' game whereas COD4 seemed more independent and editable. The COD4 gameplay is the best there is, and it is very similar to unranked servers- just unlock the ranked servers to be customised and everythings cool!

I genuinely think that Treyarch are trying to make a better relationship with the user, especially after what happened to IW after they made a poor, glitched game and abandoned it. You can see that Treyarch patch issues very quickly, normally before they are noticed at all and more importantly listen to the community.

“We plan to open up the game for modding sometime post-launch,” a Treyarch developer nicknamed pcdev told readers of the Call of Duty forums

In his appeal to the PC faithful, pcdev called support for such features “non-trivial.” The developer said Treyarch’s primary concern is shipping the game by its Nov. 9 release date. Afterward, the company will start making sure that PC gamers get the options they desire.

Err Cs:S and hl2 would disagree on the steam games aren't modable.

That's the devs and publishers locking the games down not steam.

Exactly. Bethesda games like Morrowind and Oblivion could be modded but you couldn't use the Script Extender mods due to the encryption or something. Morrowind it wasn't much of a problem but all the major Oblivion mods used it. Then at some point the game was altered so they'd work on steam copies too.

Suppose so. It's the idea of all the games being incorporated in a system that I seem to have an issue with. When I buy a game, I want to get it, put the disk in and then install it. I see no reason to buy a disk, then download Steam, then download the game even though I bought a disk? I just want to play the game, and it I want community features I'll just use xFire.

You don't need to download the game if you have the disc. (Although it may update with the latest patch, but you would have to do that manually anyway if it wasn't a Steam game.)

The steam people actually made a steam compatible OBSE iirc.

If anyone is old enough to remember CS was actually a simple mod once upon a time. I still miss the COLT with zoom on militia.

Absolutely disgusted now by the behaviour of some server admins. I was kicked from a hardcore TDM server last night for getting as far as chopper gunner. 9 kills in a row, press the button for gunner and bang .. kicked (with no reason).

Server wasn't full either so unlikely kicked to make room for members.

I assume the rcon tool allows you to see each player's k/d stats, so likely the admin was 'watching' me??

I mean the game has killstreaks, but apparently you're not allowed to use them ?!*? I raged.

Fair enough, i'd no idea who was responsible but its good either way :p

The chopper is lame, especially in hardcore where it kills almost instantly. A quick gunner on a more open map can shred the entire team for... what is it, 60 seconds?

Lame or not, it's in the game. To kick for it with no warning and no reference in the server name or colsole message is well .. lame.

Therapy over now. ;)

Unless the server has a specific rule such as no chopper, then obviously they shouldn't kick for it.

well it was supposedly the "thousands" of emails they had from people complaining about servers having rules like that that resulted in mw2 being local hosts...

I didn't know what this meant so I double clicked it and Chrome's dictionary definition is full of win:

Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair; A derogatory acronym sometimes used in contempt of unaware individuals, to indicate that the problem was caused by the user.
:D
