Command and Conquer Generals 2 Thread

i'm cautiously optimistic. They've FINALLY decided to use a new engine, and it'll probably the best, or among the best, looking RTS around when it comes out. Fully (though obv that's an exaggeration) destructable environments sound awesome too. And the icing on the cake is that it is PC exclusive, so no console bull**** and dumbing down.

I believe all those things are "firsts" for the series, at least, since the original Generals came out.

My wishlist:
- good unit pathing. Overlords were a joke in Generals 1
- no "hero units" like Kane's Wrath had. They were lame
- no unit cap
- unit upgrades and research (RA3 had none)
- good online matchmaking and ladder support (this is highly likely)
- no option to create infinite free aliases online. The number of smurfs in C&C3 was a joke
- traditional base building and resource collection (again, seems very likely)
- individual units, not squads. I realise not everyone agrees with this though and it's not a huge deal.
- no OP units like Aurora bomber and pathfinder
- "generals" like ZH had. I.e different playable subfactions within each of the 3 factions.
- non cheesy/camp storyline and FMVs

C&C Generals & Zero Hour were arguably my favourite games ever, certainly my favourite online games. Almost perfect mix of strategy, fun gameplay and team work.

The game had a great online community, shame EA didn't support it properly afterwards

So thats my next three years of PC gaming sorted then BF3 until Generals gets released . For anyone who did not play Generals or Zero hour you missed out on PC gaming history , it was that good in my book .

Pc gaming is back where it should be again , leave the consoles to the kiddies.

P.s Obligatory cheesy story line again please .

Bioware today arent the same Bioware they used to be, they are just another EA lackey as someone else already pointed out.

EA havnt made a good C+C game in a very long time, and simply adding '2' onto a sequel of a game that you once really really liked never means that the game is going to turn out to be good (99% of sequels are nothing but pure suckage compared to their previous game).

I really dont get how people can get hyped up about any new game, especially one being done by EA.

Bioware

LOL expect mechanical units having a homosexual love making option!

And expect an option to be able to press one button to make something awesome hasta happen.

So there will be DLC's but it might contain sub-factions such as stealth, laser generals. Shouldn't this be implemented in the game anyway?

What is the fascination with inventing some crazy new technology to 'spice' things up a bit. Just make a C&C game with modernish tanks and units - they don't have to be 100% realistic but i don't want to see the tank flip upside down and start flying through the air as a secondary function. One or two crazy units/structures like the flame tank or Obelisk of Light is fine but they took it way too far in the end for me.

Hopefully this will do that as Generals was probably the least silly C&C game from that point of view aside from maybe Red Alert 1.

Spamming supply drop / black market / hackers was amazing.

Most elements of generals multiplayer were amazing actually.

Supply drops were vexing at times.

I'd often have to send units to go round picking up the crates which failed to land on the pad -_-

Happened if you put them near the map edge and/or near something taller than the pad which the crates would bounce off on the way down

- non cheesy/camp storyline and FMVs

But there's been a cheesy storyline since the dawn of C&C!

I agree with this, that was really annoying. The USA was kinda OP too, if you let them get too many supply drops and turtle up. Laser turrets = inpenetrable. That weird thing where they sometimes shoot at like twice their normal range rendered rocket buggies etc useless.

Lol, yeah... I dunno. I think they suit RA and Tib but generals seems like it might be better trying to be more serious.
