Command and Conquer Generals 2 Thread

I too look forward to this. I'm only praying that it won't be a Origin download only. I'd hate to be forced to their pricing, like the new Sim-city :(

Building... Unit Ready... Building..

Tbh I still daydream about the sound in Dune2 when you plonk down a fresh building and the game pauses for a few seconds for your radar to come up. Nothing so satisfying in an RTS since then :p

Hopefully this will be as easy to mod as the original. Zero Hour was awesome but with the Last stand (I think that's what it was called) mod pack that added Saddam/Osama/Bush/etc as playable generals it just went into a new level of awesome especially with 4 players vs CPU's. Modding is one of the major reasons RTS games are nowhere near as popular on consoles as on PC.

Think you'll find the Mouse+KB are the actual only reason XD

Mapping is probably the single best thing that PCs can do in RTSs and FPSs that consoles cannot.

Nope, even on consoles with a mouse RTS games were not as popular, the PS1 versions of C&C and RA were very good ports and had PS mouse support but the lack of new maps or units meant poor sales compared to PC.

The most popular RTS ever made Total Annihilation remained dominant for so long not just because it was so well made but because of the massive support for maps/units/etc from the community.

Does anyone from the original Westwood team even work at EA any more? Its Command & Conquer in name only, i think most of the Westwood staff just buggered off when EA started crapping out C&C titles left and right. How that last game even got released is mind boggling, a steaming hot turd squeezed into a dvd case would have been a more welcome suprise than that abomination.

Most of the original Westwood team left and formed the company Petroglyph.

They are currently working with Trion on an interesting free 2 play MMO-RTS End of Nations.

^Yep. Hardly see how Generals being so great almost a decade ago can change the fact that C&C has since become a soulless abomination

I do want to be pleasantly surprised, but really doubt there's any hope for this..

Loved Generals and all the games before, but haven't played anything since. I'll wait to see the reviews, but if they're favourable I'll probably take a look at Generals 2.

However this looks far more interesting to me right now. Persistent world, customisable and not going to cost the earth like other MMO games I've played.

The original Generals was arguably the best C&C game of the lot. I had played all of the C&C games and completed the single player easily. Generals was the first time I tried it online, and after several years experience on single player I thought I stood a chance. I was quietly confident in my first match until about a minute in and transport chopper flew in with some mg and rocket soldiers and wiped me out. W00t!!! :p I got owned so hard! Luckily I had a friend who knew a thing or two and showed me some tactics. Totally different play style online.

I bought the more recent games but have not played them yet. I bought them more out of being a fan of the series more than them actually being good!

You can download the original C&C game for free by the way. Thats dated now but still a classic.

I will keep an open mind about Generals2. But I will only buy it if its worth it this time. Or if its in the xmas sale :p

China will grow larger!! (oh how right that turned out to be!)

Buff

C&C General was a solid game but I would not say its the best C&C game. Mine would be Red Alert 1 (now free to download)

Personally I thought C&C3 was actually very good and did justice to the series. Red Alert 3 was okay, I hated the Co-Commander system, but got used to it eventually.

We dont talk about C&C4.

I Personally don't think all the blame could be squarely placed at EA's door, Westwood Studios / EALA made mistakes as well. Renegade was thier first mistake when they tried to develop an engine and a game when they should have licenced and made the game half decent

It was a shame Tiberium got cancelled.

Im suprised there has been so little news on Gen2 since its original announcement.
