Command & Conquer 3 Demo, Next Week!

Ok tryed demo with doing the tutorial only for now.

Building and animated factorys etc is same as usual cnc style. Which is nice enough i supose. The gfx are very nice. Tho i think the units are a bit low poly when zoomed in you can notice this. Gfx settings 1600x1200 and maxed ingame settings with ati 7.2 drivers and using HQ af and 16x af. I get playable fps, duno exactly what fps i was getting but i would guess about 30fps maybe or just under.

I do like the effects and the terrain is almost like the quality seen in COH which is nice to see in other games now.

Interface aint as bad as i thought as well. First impressions seem that this could be a good game, and the cinematics is great, it has 2 women from battlestar galactice, the 2 cylon women, the smoking seductive one and the one with the baby. :)

Was a bit surprised they stuck with resource gathering as this has kinda been phased out last few years as most rts use a capture point for resource system, ala z steel soldiers and DAW and COH etc.

Best things for me i like to see in a rts is smooth action and uncomplicated. I also really like animations and more content thats animated the better as it brings the game more alive. Gfx overall are nice.

Not a fan of the limited zoom out. I want to zoom out a lot more but cant which i hate. Thought fps would be smoother and faster with my rig and my new great gfx card. But guess you need 8800 for that to get 40+ at that res and settings. Might give 1280x940 a go see how that fares.

Heres pic of what it looks like maxed out on my comp.

I actually found the demo quite good, yes the graphics are no where near COH but I still found the graphics very nice.
A 1950PRO can run this with highest settings! :D
It looks like the story bit will be quite good, just those cut scenes made me drool, or the Ion cannon firing :D .
Too bad I can't play NOD yet :( .
To me it looks like this game will be a very good addition to the series, hopefully it will be as fun as Tiberian Sun was.
And to those comparing COH's graphics to this, C&C was never about the graphics, it was about the gameplay.

I'll be finding it hard to get adjusted to the scrolling in this game after getting so used to the full-map zoom in SupCom. But anyway, I'm looking forward to it solely because of the soundtrack + game intro :D Always make great demos for showing to the mates.

So you can't zoom out then?!?!?!?

Look at my screenshot, you can zoom out a bit but not much more.

Edited cos i was wrong about being max zoom out, it wasnt as i had to recheck my pic.

Um guys on my game i can zoom out a lot further...

Scroller on mouse fo' tha' shizzle?

I cant get the sound to work on my demo, takes away a lot of the atmosphere. Also the units, especially infantry seem to move too slowly. Bit disappointed, as others have mentioned, with the amount of units. I cant help but think is that it? For some reason it never occurred to me with the likes of Red Alert but it irritates me here.

Seems good but not great. 7/10, and i never played generals, perhaps if i had id have more rubbish to compare it to and it would boost the score.

It's exactly as I expected, a typical EA RTS #43656

Ditto. Majority of the firefights were a little under-whelming - infantry seem pretty much useless, a mammoth tank can take out a small army, and there's far too much money (I was constantly building tanks and could afford to build more...).

It doesn't feel as if there's a need to upgrade your units, as you can just build more and send them to the slaughter - not that the slaughter is happening to your team; if you get 2 or 3 APCs and 5 Battle Tanks, you're invincible! Drop down a few infantry squads with the reinformancements ability and it's a cake walk...

Overal, I'm very unimpressed. As far as the C&C series goes, this is nothing but a sidestep from Generals. Yes, they've got the feeling of the C&C universe back (Tiberium, all the cheesy FMV, and the art styling), but the gameplay is just like Generals - but (dare I say it) feels even less involving!

The fact that you can't zoom out far enough to easily coordinate movements is annoying as well - not an essential feature, but when you consider what the competetion does, seems pretty basic!

would someone please do me a favour and generate an sfv or an md5 for CnC3_Demo.exe? My download isnt working and I want to know if I need to push another gig and a bit :(

It wasn't that i was saying these were necessarily a bad thing. It just seemed like it might have been a bit imbalanced towards NOD, but saying that i haven't had time to play it much, so its probably just a case of me needing to get used to it.

Ive played and loved all the CnC series and will def buy this game, i just think that SupCom may have won me over. Whereas back in the day i would have played CnC over TA everytime.

I've seen many complaints regarding the lack of zoom, so...

How many of you were playing Supcom beforehand? :p Or, is it fundementally really shallow zoom compared to non supcom rts>

Don't get me wrong, i go from supcom to coh and the zoom feels silly :D

It seems ok, but is it not just the same game with better graphics? :(

I was quite hyped about it and downloaded the demo etc. Over 50% of the time spent on the mission was watching the cutscene with bad acting. (the video's in the demo are 450mb?)

The skirmish option is quite good, but I'm not that sure on whether to pre-order it or not as I don't think it would last that long and would probably get a bit boring.

Some of the NOD troops seem pretty strong and gimicky tho.

You can't really compare this to CoH though.

CoH is BF1942 in an RTS package.

It's like comparing Red Alert to Z.

The zoom in COH is better and the units seem to be more in proportion than in C&C

For me Spam Commander zooms out TOO far, all you end up watching is dots at war and it very dissapointing, They should have capped it about 2/3s of what it is, so you could still see the unit and not blue dots shooting at red dots. All very boring.

TBH i actually think i liked Generals more than this demo :p , but only after some of the mods, Generals at least had a tech tree, as mentioned in here it too easy to get the mammoth tanks and juggernaughts and once you get 5 its game over! You get the feeling the GUI was made for the EggsBox and ported to PC. Specially cause of the size of the icons

There is still the Scrin race to come i suppose but as mentioned in Mag previews they feel like a last minute stick on and not part of the game.

meh..........i suppose the more i play the more im going off it
