Commonwealth Games 2014

So what's the percentage on guys winning from behind compared to the ones at the front looking over their shoulder, is it roughly 50/50?

Most of the time the rider behind will win.
It's significantly easier to follow behind another rider (about 30% less effort) so if you race from the start you would have an easy 3 laps tucked in behind then a quick burst of power to come round him on the final corner.

When you see them going slowly around from the start, the rider in front is trying to force the rider behind to make the first move so he can jump into the slipstream.
The rider behind is waiting for an opportunity to surprise the rider in front and try to get away from him before he has a chance to get into the slipstream.

There has been too much swimming, agreed.

Check this out though. Amazing 13 year old girl wins a bronze medal. So sweet in her interview. :)

Cake and Irn Bru, what a star. There was a good bit of commentary when she was getting her medal. Something along the lines:-

"and there she is getting her bronze medal and quaich"

"what's a quaich?"

"it's effectively a cup with 2 handles for drinking whiskey out of"

"not really something we should be giving 13 year olds then!"

Some of the stuff in the men's gymnastics is unreal. The stuff they do on the rings is incredible, you must have to be so strong. No wonder their arms are huge.

100m finals on now. No Bolt though. Looking for Adam Gemili to get a medal of some colour for England.

edit: Yep, silver :)

Yep. However, once he gets to the Olympics and world championships with americans and Bolt in the mix, he'll be way out of the medals. The fastest time just now was 10.00 seconds, so not even into the routine sub 10s. Credit to him though for getting silver.

Not too bad, but way out of the league of bolt, up to 5 meters which is a lot, really enjoying it though, the latest sport I am thinking of taking up is table tennis, don't think I watched an of the Dehli CG don't know why not.

Enjoying it so far, but agree that there is, as with Olympics, too much swimming.

My favourite event so far has been the Squash, great to see it get some decent coverage.

I've really enjoyed the swimming so far, think it's the last day for swimming so you won't have to put up with much more :)

Think it's been a good games so far, hoping it keeps it up.

i've enjoyed the swimming but we could have done without it. we'd be top of the medals table if australia hadn't won 49 of their 87 medals in the pool. :p

without swimming, they'd have 38 medals (13 gold, 8 silver, 17 bronze)
we'd have 50 medals (19 gold, 16 silver, 15 bronze)

I've enjoyed the events so far, for me the standout has been the equal billing of the para games. I really enjoyed watching the tandem cycling and the T12 100m final yesterday, the level of training that must go into those events is phenomenal, when your watching the two athletes seem to be working as one entity which is amazing to see.

Not quite yet haha. Great morning though, the women's Hep high jump was very enjoyable.

And Greg Rutherford must have spent about 30 minutes signing and having photos taken, despite being dragged away by his steward on numerous occasions.

Pretty much same seat numbers for tomorrow morning but on the front row. :)

Very strange organisation and layout to get into Hampden. Used the train to get from Glasgow this morning and the wag back and it was pretty mad, like a London tube at rush hour. Probably take a shuttle bus back tomorrow. There is one entrance for the whole stadium, maybe about 25 security gates. In the guide it talks about restrictions to bags, food, bottles all sorts but they didn't seem to care. As long as they get checked properly, people taking in proper hiking bags full of food for families. The food to buy is stupidly expensive, £2.90 for a little box of chips, near enough a hand full. £7.50 for fish and chips, its £4 for a 400ml Heineken. Its £5 something for a sandwich!!

They're getting thumped hard on entering the stadium. I was at the Diamond League which was effectively the dummy run for the commies.... There was nowhere near even 20k people at that never mind the 40k+ they are getting for these athletics days.

Even the DL day was massive lines of people and on that day they certainly were very strict and taking food and drink off of everyone. People were absolutely raging.

Some guy arrived with his nice camera and lens and because the lens was over a certain length he couldn't take it in. This was not communicated at all prior to the event these restrictions so this guy was stuck as nowhere to leave his camera and of course, his car was nowhere within 2 miles as public transport is the only way to get there.

So yeah, it's a shambles but at least they are making it a little easier.

19 year old Ben Proud wins gold for England in the 50m freestyle. This guy has an amazing physique! (no homo)

Nice, very close to the track there. I was up and to your right today, really enjoyed the T54 1500m rounds today and the women's 400m heats too. Pity about Andy Turner crashing out and I thought Andrew Osagie was perhaps a bit unfortunate to be disqualified but I haven't seen it back clearly.

My Grandad's step granddaughter(Georgia Davies) won a gold tonight in the pool. Her 2nd medal this games, think that gives her the full set after get a medal in Delhi.

Changed a lot since I last saw her when she was 6 or so.
