Commonwealth Games 2014

Speaking of diving, England's women's synchronised 10m platform diving pair is currently in the lead.

edit: bah, silver in the end. Still, pretty good.

Controversy. Bolt is quoted in the Times newspaper as saying he was "not really" having fun, calling the Games "a bit ****" and claiming "the Olympics were better". He was said to be waiting in the drizzle for a car and looking "obviously unhappy".

Bolt denies it

"I'm waking up to this nonsense..journalist please don't create lies to make headlines"

If this is true then I have lost all respect for him.

You've lost respect for him because he isn't enjoying himself? You can't force him to be happy.
It sounds to me like (if he even said these things in the first place) the reporter overheard a conversation or had an informal chat, probably under false pretences. Is not like he has made an official statement declaring the games boring or said it live on tv or anything.

Usain Bolt is here to take part in a relay event rather than either the 100/200m that he would probably quite like to be doing - I can't say I'd be totally surprised if he's not enjoying himself as much as he does when he's on top form. I don't know whether he did say that or not but if you asked me on a drizzly day while waiting to be picked up then I might not be in the chirpiest of moods either. I can even see the argument that the Olympics are better, if you win them it's against the best in the World, not just the best in the Commonwealth although for certain events those are the same thing.

If he did say it then it was injudicious and disrespectful but maybe he was just having a bad day - I think we're all allowed to have them from time to time.

The Commonwealth Games are low on the priority list for top tier athletes.
Olympics
Worlds
Commies - if your country is a member

There is no disputing that and there is no disputing the reason he is only doing the relays is to show face and because it is only the Commonwealths. He has not competed on the circuit at all this year.

The comparison of other Championships or even the diamond league circuit where his appearance fee's will be incredible is totally pointless..... I do believe it's probably typical journalist BS, but either way, who cares? He's a PITA.

As far as I'm concerned, IF Bolt said that, then it's arrogant. There are athletes who have to work really hard in long distance running or multiple discipline events like decathlon and heptathlon just to get one medal. Bolt on the other hand is one of these athletes that is born with a gift to win and only has to perform for a few seconds. Bored? It's not like he has to work in an office 8 hours a day. He's become wealthy, famous and successful. He should be grateful and respectful he's invited to ANY athletics meet. I'm sure many here will disagree with my opinion.

In that case, i think it's just you being ignorant rather than him being arrogant.
Just because his race lasts less than 10 seconds doesn't mean he does less work than a long distance runner.
Working 8 hours a day in an office is an easy life compared to that of a pro athlete.

I was expecting someone to say that. I'm well aware he works hard at training, but so do all the other 100m runners, no doubt just as hard. Bolt is more naturally gifted though, so it's always going to be much easier for him to win. And without wishing to sound like I'm belittling sprinters, how punishing can a 100m sprinter's training be when compared to a triathlete or marathon runner?

Stresses are different; training is different. I suggest you have a look into training for maximal power output before poo-pooing it. :)

This mornings session, track side.

I am really impressed currently with England's table topping 105 medals and the most golds.

I remember watching back in the 90's when they were struggling to get on the table by the second week and ending with just a few golds.

Shows what an inspiration the Olympics has been to sport. Equally brilliant performances by Scotland and Wales. The home nations have a lot to be proud of.

Caught some of the para- lawn bowls earlier, seriously impressive stuff, one chap used his feet to bowl... The accuracy was amazing!

I have to say I'm going to make sure the junior Rugby team I assistant coach for, watch the David Rudisha interviews from yesterday and London 2012 for a lesson on how to be gracious and humble in victory and defeat. The man is a legend and superb example of sportsmanship.
