Competitors - a clarification

I wish OcUK members would stop trolling in this thread - they jump in, state they have no idea what happened, are too lazy to read the relevant threads, then ask us to explain it to them, and at the end of the post claim we were a "mob", "having a pitchfork session", "all wrong" etc. without actually having any of the facts.

Hi,

I don't think it's reasonable to ban all mention of Amazon, any more so than it's possible to ban mention of tesco, asda or comet.

As has always been the policy (certainly for the last few years) has been that mentions of larger firms who have their fingers in many pies are okay so long as you aren't mentioning products that directly compete with OcUK.

Hence talking about toasters from comet or beans from tesco is fine, but telling people about their laptop deals isn't really on (say what you like, they wouldn't let us post our deals in their store!).

To be clear, kindle fine, games we don't sell fine, hardware not cool, games we sell (yeah, all of them) not cool.

A few dons lost their temper yesterday but to be fair to them under heavy trolling - yes trolling.

Please chill out and stop the trolling or this will go on and on and end badly.

Thanks for reading.

Just wanted to ask, are we in trouble for the star wars the old republic thread, where we was discussing locations to buy the pre orders from?

I did ask in the OCUK customer service if you guys where going to be selling this before i said anything.

I think it's worth bringing up two other forum members that were banned/suspended in this riot.

sldsmkd got permabanned for creating a Forum that would have no rules regarding mentioning of the competitors in the PC Gaming subforum.

And Wynthorpe came out with a Nazi comment in the heat of discussion (he only got suspended which seems reasonable).

Why are the members paying for their mistakes (?) when the Dons are clearly above the law?

I was also suspended for saying the rule was retarded - my suspension email stated that I'd insulted Valk by saying that.

All a tad daft.

Hang on, have people actually seen these emails? From what I've seen they weren't as bad as people seem to be thinking.

Considering they were sent from the OcUK email servers, thus becoming an Official communication from the company and representing the company, I think they are rather bad form and far from professional or polite.

What happened?

Can someone some up for those of us who enjoy our weekends away from computers?

Regarding the actions of Don, Valkia..

If you'd rather not read the actual threads for yourself, I suppose I could sum it up for you..

  • Tried to force a rule that clearly didn't come from OcUK to begin with (Hence why it's been revised god knows how many times), that contradicted the rule we've been told to follow before.
  • Made no effort for a calm and clarified statement to the matter, just raged and threw his weight around. Enforcing that because "he purchased the games" he had the final say on it.
  • Closed and deleted threads that were just asking for clarification / a sticky.
  • Banned Neil for a thread made before this rule was even mentioned, without warning.
  • Held Neil hostage until the forum agreed to his rules, only unbanning him when he realised it wasn't going to happen.
  • Banned two other members that had to wait for Telliscopi to unban them the next day.
  • Sent threatening emails to some members outside of the forums (and without trust).
  • Generally stirred up a PR ****storm and represented OcUK in a terrible fashion that could have been avoided from five minutes in / Acted like a teenager despite being a big boy now.

I can't think of one company that would be sane to let a staff member act to customers in that way without some kind of action being taken.

I don't think anyone's mentioned how "bad" they were or not. Just that it was part of what was done.

Still pretty bad form to be sending warning threats directly to users, without going through trust, infractions, PMs imo. As moo says, if it comes across as an "official" message from OcUK it doesn't paint a professional picture.

Wow if them email accusations are true then i would think someone should dismiss that person in question.

I dont believe it is our position as a community and more so customers of OCuK to call for this type of action.

However I do expect as a community and customer not to be treated in the shabby manner we were on Friday.

It is for the management at OCuK to decide if they find it accpetable for their staff and representatives to come onto these forums and

1. Treat us like brainless children and not valued customers
2. Issue unreasonable and contradictory rules and demands of us as forum users.
3. Hand out instant bans for no legitamite reason other than the offenders bottling it and not capable of reasoned discussion.
4. Issue threats and innuendo
5. Blackmail the community
6. Label us as customers, wortheless and not really worth the hassle (10%)
7. Email to personal addresses with words that were not fit for public viewing
8. Attempt to level the blame for all of the above of us.

If on review OCuK determine that the above actions are the acceptable public views and actions of the company then there is little we can do other than decide if we want to hang around and support the comapny in the future with orders of any description.

I know if I was the Organ Grinder at OCuK I would be expecting my buyers to source the right range of products at a price that is competitive. I would not expect my buyers to run around forums with smoke and mirrors to deflect why people do not buy the limited range of over priced products on offer.

The hardware guys seem to fulfil these expectations, perhaps its time someone got behind his desk and did his job.

And finally the DONS must appreciate whether you work for OCuK or not you are seen as the public voice of the company on these forums even if you consider the two to be seperate.

Exactly, somebody would have posted one if they were that bad.
Let bygones be bygones, or this will only "end badly" as someone has already said, at first I took that statement wrong, now I understand.

I never said it wasn't unprofessional but there were no threats in the email I've seen.

And as far as I'm aware Neil wasn't banned for creating a thread before the rule was put in place, he was banned for mentioning the competitor again in the thread on Friday night.

Technically he was breaking the rule, realistically it was a warning at best, Valkia had just gone into rage mode.

And again the other two users who were banned weren't banned without reason, they both know what they did...

Looks at Robbo with an evil stare :D
