Competitors - a clarification

I posted my amusement at the fact that OcUk can consider themselves to be a competitor to *anyone* (in terms of PC games) when they sell eight titles, of which I guess there are ~30 in stock total.

For this, I was suspended with the reason "Think it's funny now?".

Rather unprofessional, tbh.

I have no qualms following forum rules - the moderation is actually what has kept me here all these years - but to suspend someone for a reasonable opinion is just petty.

valkia again?

At the very least I want an apology from valkia (one that he actually means). Based on what I have seen so far, doubt the guy can get past his ego/powertrip to give one.

I'm actually quite concerned about the abuse of access to non trust email addresses, as I buy all my company's hardware from OCUK. Granted it's from a non forum linked account, but I think the cause for concern is warranted.

Those emails appear to a mod as they only have access to the forum details. It is your forum information on there and nothing else. I would imagine as an employee of the shop, they have access to some information, but I very much doubt it would be available from home.

I want valkia's moderator/admin powers revoked!, the way he has treated me and pretty much EVERY person on this forum that replied in those threads. Will i feel better with an apology, perhaps but it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth that once again some members of staff are allowed to abuse their status. Every person that got banned or suspended valkia had his hand in it

uv, that's the tone he would use

There's an option within vBullitin for every user:

From time to time, the administrators may want to send you email notices.

If you do not want to receive these notices, disable this option.
Receive Email from Administrators

However, anyone with the appropriate forum permissions can get around that option and just go straight into the Admin panel and get the address of a user, and then send an email outside of the forum.

I don't know if the people that received emails had this setting enabled or disabled, but the emails received did not come through the forum software and were sent directly to them.

What's the point even having the option if power abusing dons go straight past it?

I don't think Dons can go into the actual admin panels on VBulletin.

Last I used VBulletin, I'd have had access to full profiles including fields hidden to normal users through the admin menu, even as just a volunteer mod.

You've got to use the admin pages to unban people, unless it's changed a lot since I last used it. I don't see how he'd have got private emails without it.

Well, they aren't able to edit usernames for example. I think OCUK have varied permission settings for them. Though I'm not sure.

when i was hosting a forums (many moons ago) there was a selected few who had full admin rights, so full members list,ban/unban,ip address etc, which is what i expect spie etc has, then i could allow some people admin rights but restricted to what they could do, so ban/unban,move/close threads etc.

Im sure spie & co would give every don the full access to the forums controls as it would cause more mayhem than whats going on at the present

I'd expect that of any forum.

Email address that are private to individuals were sent emails from a don, not the emails in trust. If people wanted messages sent to their private emails, they'd have set them up in trust, which is why it's there. Emails were sent from outside of the forum.

Don't use my private forum e-mail as a target for argument.

interesting thread that

LOL I don't even know what is going on. Closing threads is quite hilarious though. I think one of the other mods pee'd on the PC games forum's chips.

Basically people were talking about another online retailer selling games who are a competitor, so one of the mods stepped in and said "no comp" talk etc etc, at this point the PC game section kicked off and said "LOL you only stock 8 games, hardly competition". Both points are valid but the mods govern the forum so what the mods say, goes I guess!

Seems even the mods didn't knwo the current rules or the new (what are we up to now 4-5th revision ?) rules.
