Competitors - a clarification

People are taking this massively OTT, Nath apologised almost immediately for the 10% comment IIRC and said he just made a mistake in the heat of the moment but people are STILL going on about it, just let it go.

NO!

Not until Valkia is delt with either with his moderator status removed or a public appology. Stop going on about nath ffs, Valkia is the problem and has been for some time

Have you guys even read the threads?

I was there as the first one unfolded, and been vaguely keeping an eye on the situation.

I agree its not ideal, the threats outside of the forums aren't good at all, but I still don't get why many people are offended. It should only be a few. Being offended on someones behalf is just silly.

Who? They suspended 3 people and maybe were rude to a few more, but nobody else can say really they they've been insulted. Confusing rules about what is allowed to be said isn't particularly insulting in my books.

Mountain out of a molehill etc.

The bannings were probably unfair, but then Steam could suddenly ban your account for no reason if they wanted to, and its the same here. Read the T+C's before signing up.

The problem is that shop staff shouldn't act like menchildren on these forums, banning people for disagreeing with them because they aren't mature enough to respond properly.

It's not just about the bannings, it's about the attitude, especially the "less than 10%" thing as well. It's quite insulting that the son of the owner of this store thinks of customers in that way.

On top of that, I don't think it's just about what happened over the weekend, I think it's been a culmination of things over time that's lead to this. If what happened over the weekend was an isolated incident, I know I'd feel differently about it, but it's not. It's just one of many similar situations and something needs to be done about it.

I got an infraction, and then a suspension by Nath for disagreeing with him, I didn't insult him I wasn't rude, I presented a reasoned argument against something, and he clearly couldn't respond to it, so he just suspended me instead, I've heard of him doing the same to other people two and this type of stuff needs to stop.

Protip, they can ban you for no reason. If you are offended by that, be offended by that. The manner in which they did wasn't good I'll admit, but c'est la vie.

Firstly, if you weren't here at the time, you can't pass judgement such as "drop it", "mountain out of a molehill" etc. So stop adding fuel to the situation.

Secondly, I am sure Gibbo will sort this when he gets a chance today. He has only just become aware of the situation.

He played it down and then went on about context, no apology for i at all, and now he's saying that Valkia needs a good talking too for what he did, when Nath was involved in the same things.

Of course they can, it's their forums. It doesn't make it right or acceptable though, especially when this community exists because of the shop that OcUK run. Them having a shop kinda changes the whole thing because it's reasonable to expect that a lot of forum users are customers. To some, the upsetting and offending of customers doesn't seem like a problem though.

I'm not trying to justify their actions as such, I'm just saying everyone getting up in arms about it is a bit silly when it only effects 10 people or whatever.

Anyway, I've got work to do, hopefully nobody will be offended by my comments ;) :)

So the term "rag head" is ok in your book and most of the forum is caucasian? I missed that being said but that's even worse that what i thought this was all about. That's totally out of order. I questioned the dpa issue also with the private emails being used in that way. Also with respect to the other issue I feel people are allowed to be up in arms over this from the perspective that we were meant to believe we were a valuable part of ocuk but cleary wouldnt be missed if we went else where. Really think some members are deliberatly missing the point to look good to the mods

Perhaps not, but people are getting emotional about it, not thinking logically. An apology is just words, it won't make everything better.

I agree with you there, I don't think an apology will change anything. I think something needs to be done to stop this happening again, and like others in this thread, I think removing Valkia's ability to suspend/ban people and delete posts and threads is a start in that direction. It just shows a massive disregard for customers, which is a really bad move in business terms.

Makes a mockery of the already ridiculous competitor rule, doesn't it?

I'm not so sure anything will happen over the racist comments though, for "various" reasons.

i remember that raghead thing - it was completely unacceptable then and still is , im not sure they either really apologized for it either - you can almost taste the arrogance of some of the ocuk staff/mods.

my issue with all of this is the use of emails outside of their intended purpose and whilst not a direct violation of the DPA its not particular professional or cool.

Someone should apologise and then all of this stuff should be removed. More or less.

Oh, and a proper sticky added.

Completely agree....

You can really tell this is the gaming forum....

I know plenty of people won't agree with the following, and fair enough, I understand that you don't, but in my eyes:

A mod made a pretty big screw up... and it got out of hand...
Fair enough, there was a sense of abuse of power and overreaction by some of the mods.
In my opinion plenty of members on the forum over reacted to the over reaction.
The mods did what they believed was correct at keeping the boards in check - whether it was out of order or not is another question - so in their minds they were acting responsibly, and when heavily criticised, other mods stepped in as support, and when criticised they perhaps snapped a little bit. Thing is, to be honest, how many of you wouldn't jump in to defend a friend - whether right or wrong... and how many would react harshly under criticism.

Now as far as I'm aware, (I may be wrong) this is the only incident where there has been such an issue... As such, it's a first offence... it's hardly murder... All we really need is the mods to sit down and make a sensible and logical decision on what to do about rules on competitors - and sticky it. Clarifying things like Steam along the way. Along with that we could do with a short concise apology.

But there is no need to take the guys modship away, he did what he thought was right... everybody makes mistakes...

Very very wrong. It happens a lot more than it should, it's just quickly dealt with, as in deleted. I have witnessed such situations quite a few times, and I believe the last few days was a snapping point for all the other times it's happened, plus the massive amounts of hypocrisy.

And here's the dangerous side of a company-linked forum. The mob is rising up!

For what it's worth, I personally think Valkia should stay as mod for the reason that this 'episode' will probably make him the meekest most cautious diplomatic mod in the history of modship! He'll probably have learnt some things about PR and diplomacy that would very much make him think twice before speaking.

Rubbish.

Nath came in to try and calm people down after Valkia's rage tip, made one little slip and people have spent the next few days jumping down his throat and trolling him.

Valkia needs disciplinary action (the companie's business, NOT ours) and hopefully an apology (which is what we should get) but no-one else has done anything that shouldn't just be forgiven.

How is that rubbish? It's what happened, wasn't just a "little slip", it's something that an employee of a business should ever say, and on top of that, it's just one of many from Nath, he has a reputation for it, whether you're aware of that or not.
