Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

this site is saying

If you’re a Windows 8 or RT user you’ll be able to download the update for free starting at 4AM PDT (that’s 12pm in the UK) on 17 October. You’ll be able to get it directly through the Windows Store or by downloading an ISO image if you prefer to install it manually.

i thought ms won't be offering an 8.1 iso?

May consider upgrading after this as I tried it in a VM the other day, I bought a upgrade copy of Win8 Pro for £15 which I can actually do fresh installs from

I'll tell you what has me stumpted.

I have a Windows 8 laptop (It's an OEM, has UEFI, the Serial is like hard coded into the laptop)

It's running an 8.1 Preview ISO.

Do I need to install an 8 ISO on that first to then put it into 8.1 or what? Can I install an 8.1 RTM ISO on it (With the UEFI hardcoded key?)

What about my Surface RT? That's running an 8.1 preview, how will that work (For all the none really tech people) will it just turn the preview into 8.1?

Where did you get an upgrade for £15 from?

That was from the first few weeks of sale for the digital download version. The £15 version was for people who recently bought a laptop the prior few months to W8 release. And those not eligible had to pay £25 for the upgrade.

But, it turned out you could enter any Windows 7 product key and get the £15 subsidised price before Microsoft closed loophole and performed proper checks on product keys.

When I installed Windows 8 I used my upgrade product key however I also purchased Windows Media Centre as an add on which also gave me another product key.

Is it normal that my Windows 8 is now showing the WMC product key as the current activated product key?

Yes, the WMC overrides the other one. I'm going back to without-WMC though as I never even launched the software once.
