Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

Router access

Since upgrading to 8.1 when I type 192.168.0.1 into IE11 to access my Netgear router I get "unable to find url".
Has anyone else seen this problem

Well that is a total ball-ache as my Steelseries keyboard does not have any drivers. It is a 6gV2. I thought it might be it as all the lights got stuck on during the upgrade.

Just wondering if it is worth trying to do it with nothing plugged in.

i've removed all Steelseries stuff and trying again with my razer stuff ,report back soon

Yep, me too, can't seem to find my Virgin SuperHub anymore, also I've a VS2012 project that uses a hosts file entry, try going direct in IE11 and it just doesn't work, fine in Firefox. Weirdly it works in IE11 from VS2012 when I right click the project and say View in Browser, exact same URL...

I installed this last night on my laptop, pretty much by accident. I left it downloading the update, got home and it was on a T's & C's screen. Thought what the hell and did it, expecting the worst after reading this thread.

However, it went incredibly smoothly - changed the keyboard from US to UK during the install (it was an option in the bottom right on at least one of the screens) and no issues so far (although I'm sure a couple will crop up). I didn't muck about with RTM's, Previews or any of that stuff previously as I thought it would just complicate the upgrade and my Windows 8 was vanilla with no registry "tweaks" or start button mods.

I'll be giving it a thorough testing over the weekend.

The 'All Apps' screen really needs unified search. I shouldn't have to move up to the Start screen to search for Windows Update.

I can see why they've done it like that,
I think a better way is typing just searches all apps, pressing enter makes it a normal search.

Have you tried the drivers after install? I'm just wondering if they work as I really cannot be bothered get get a cheap keyboard and mouse just to get it working.

Fair enough, i'll hold off trying again till it's sorted. Cheers for the info. :)

Will unless there is a fix for RD Web Access then I will have to go back to Win 8, not frikkin amused one bit

The RD Web Access is probably filtered to only allow certain browser user agents to access it and hasn't been updated for the latest version of IE. Try changing the User Agent string in IE to an older version... that might fix it - http://www.zytrax.com/tech/web/change-ua.html (follow the instructions for MSIE 8 and 9)

Am I right in thinking I can aquire the iso for 8.1, do a clean installation from it using a dodgy 8.1 serial and then change the serial to my legit Windows 8 one to activate it?

When typing numbers in address bar you have the bar expand as it tries to predict searches. At the bottom there is "Turn off suggestions (stop sending keystrokes to Bing). Click that and continue typing router ip.

Well I solved my issue and have potentially solved it for a number of others. It does require some work in the bios and to win8 prior to accepting the install to 8.1 though which means anyone upgraded to 8.1 will have to wipe to fix it. Not the best fix but a fix all the same. Hopefully microsoft will find a solution and build it into an update of some sort.
