Confirmed: Windows Blue Will Be Free, to Be Called 8.1

i'm guessing that he doesn't have an upgrade license but that to install win8.1 he needs to freshly install win8 with the normal license he has, and then install updates from the winstore so that he can then install win8.1. this done over time is fine, but to do it in 1 go i guess can be annoying

The start screen is the correct resolution 2560x1440 (running a single screen on display port), however when I go to the desktop its seems to be be running at a different resolution, text is bigger and also icons as well, object desktop seems to be fuzzy and not crisp either.

Change the display scaling back to 100%, 8.1 has an auto scaling option which is supposed to help if you have a small screen like a 10" with a high res like 1920x1080.

This is what I'm saying - why does Microsoft insist on having an upgrade licence? Apple don't. You just get one version which installs the operating system. That's it.

MS have got rid of upgrade version now so 8.1 u can only buy full version.

but those with win8 upgrade licenses (like I have) can still upgrade to 8.1 for free without buying a full license.

also your saying apple doesn't, but Microsoft isn't apple. its a totally different company and different ways of working things.

Haven't tried it. I just want to wipe my drive and install 8.1 cleanly without fannying about reinstalling Windows 8, applying updates and then installing 8.1 from the store. If there was just one version which you could download as an ISO without requiring a previous version or having Basic, Pro, WMC versions, etc. it would be a helluva lot easier.

Just download Win8.1 RTM ISO and check MD5 hash so you know its has not been tampered with, plenty of places on the net with install keys for it including one in this thread then change the key after with your purchased W8 upgrade key.

Thanks for the help all looking as it should do now :)

I've found this.

•You might be asked to insert discs or recovery media that came with your PC. Check the info that came with your PC to see if your PC manufacturer provided these discs or media. In some cases, you might have created them when you first set up your PC.

If you upgraded your PC from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 and your PC has a Windows 8 recovery partition, resetting your PC will restore Windows 8. You’ll need to upgrade to Windows 8.1 after the reset has finished.

Anyone have issue with Live tiles not working since updating to 8.1?

See image, they is now a little down arrow on them?

I think down arrow means ready to download. click the title to start downloading

Nope app just opens normally.. I dont have no live tile feature, it was working yesterday.

I just fixed the news one by removing it and re-installing it so that means, it wants me to re-download them all lol

Think i'll wait for them to get patched.

I have just got Win 8 installed and am downloading 8.1 through the Windows Store. It's taking its' sweet time.

Edit: 30% downloaded after about 30 mins :(

Only 50% of that bar is for download, and depending on the speed of your hard drive you might be waiting a lot longer (it took at least three hours to complete on my laptop, but it took my fathers computer around an hour less as it has a faster hard drive).

SSD so the install should be fast, hopefully.
