Im not asking who has them, I am in posession of a fully formed cerebrum and Google, therefore if i wanted to know who was selling them, i could ;) (lets face it, its not rocket science).

What i am saying is that we cant say that they "cost more than initially expected" till they are actually available in retail channels.
Pre-order prices a month prior to actual availability can not be considered an accurate basis for actual pricing.

umm.. no lol

According to the following articles/webpages it is...

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2985
http://www.technewsworld.com/story/51030.html
http://www.nordichardware.com/news,4010.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xeon

A quick google search points to many more websites saying the same release date of 26th June.

They could all be wrong but I'm yet to see another release date specified for the woodcrest server chips.

just to confirm, conroe uses socket 775 right?

so my mach2gt that's currently setup for an athlon 64 would need this:

VapoChill LightSpeed Socket Kit (04-L-0216) (Socket 775) (WC-042-VP)

to work with a conroe?

any advice appreciated

more then likely people (like myself) will pay over the odds (but not by much) to get the chip asap

Does anyone else think it might be worth going for the 6700 and cheaper RAM because of the 10x multi?

Depends on how far you wish to overclock...

Edit: Actually, I say no because the price is too high (£530) whereas you can yourself an E6600 and some PC2-6400 RAM for £430. Also, with the E6700 and PC2-5300, the max 1:1 overclock is only 3.3GHz, whereas with the E6600 and PC2-6400, the max 1:1 overclock is 3.6GHz. So, cheaper + higher overclock = no brainer.

Sorry, I was thinking 6700 + PC6400 = £600 or 6600 + PC8000 = £600.

ooo woodcrest, was thinking kentsfield lol nvm :p

Well that depends on how fast the cores are. The cheapest woodcrest is $210* ($420 for two) and the most expensive is $850* ($1,700 for two).

2 x 3ghz woodcrest for $1,700. Can't be miles off what Kentsfield will be for the top model?

*Intel launch prices in quantities of 1000

But yeah.... 4 cores on the desktop is a bit OTT for this moment in time. Then again....

ooh some items just arrived in the post, be back in a few hrs :D
