console loyalty

The XBox controller will always be 100 times better than the Playstation controller for me. And since the PS4 controller looks relatively unchanged - in design at least - I'm already looking at probably getting the sequel to the 360.

it's about choice for the gamers

similar games:

Wii U
walking dead fps

Xbox 360

Dead Island Riptide

PS3

I can't say I've ever been loyal to a device... the idea is a little balmy (barmy?)!

I have a soft spot for devices I've owned.. such as my C64 and my Megadrive... and I was sad to see SEGA fail and exit the market.

In terms of Sony vs MS I own a PS2 and briefly owned a 360 too (damn thing was LOUD). The only loyalty I have these days is to "bang for buck" :p

I'd like to get a PS4 based on current rumours, but a lot of things can change between now and release.

I will be getting a PS4 purely for no other reason than the fact I want to carry over my trophies... is that a bit sad?

I suffer from game loyalty, not console loyalty.

So for example I'll be buying a Wii-U when the next Zelda and/or Xenoblade successor is released.

I'll be buying a PS4 when the next Uncharted and/or God of War is released.

I'll be buying an Xbox 3 when the next... erm. Well, no games really grabbed me that much on the 360 but when something big is released on that I'll buy one of those too. Shadow Complex 2 would probably do it :p

You see, I know I must come off as a bit of a Sony fanboy on here, And it's not due to any love for Sony, its because 90% of my time is spent gaming on the PS3 because thats the console my favourites are on. And when people pick and poke at things that really dont matter, I tend to get defensive, not of sony, but because I dont see what they're complaining about :p

"Pad is too hard to hold" "PSN is sooo unstable."

I just dont experience these issues!!

I do see problems sometimes, Like updates taking ages to download. But that's hit and miss, as other times they'll download in no time atall, and its not dependent on file size lol, so its baffling.

Problem is if I then criticize an aspect of Xbox live, when I go on it, and I say, I much prefer the Sony interface, etc, etc.

Well then I come off as a fanboy.:(

I wouldn't say you're coming off as a fan boy at all, just personal preference.

for me the ps3 pad is far to small and light, where as the 360 is perfect and I don't see a control pad ever being better than it for myself and my big hands... :p

I would say the ps3 interface is better in terms of function but I'm so used to the 360 one now that it makes the ps3 one look dull as hell.

I bought PS2 on launch night (after spending a couple of nervous hours in a nightclub) and thoroghly enjoyed it.

(I wasnt old enough to buy a PlayStation at launch, but bought a budget one a few years later)

I bought PS3 on launch as much for the BR player as for the games (although I knew better choice/quality of games would come) and still use my ps3 occasionally now although the "full" GT5 was probably the last time I used it extensively for one game.

I bought an X360 mainly for Forza 4 (and the hd-dvd drive lol) and thought that was a fantastic game

However Im definitely a tech person and the Xbox (which I think I skipped completely) and X360 were always small pc's in a console box and looked pretty tacky to go with it, where as the PS2 and PS3 were more engineering designs and specifics just for Sony (and the attraction of BR on the PS3) - and after growing up with Trinitron TV's (when they were arguably the best available), Walkmans, and even the mere CD (Phillips/Sony working together) Ive always kept a relatively close eye on the Japanese company rather than MS.

OK both consoles this time around are most likely to be pc's in a box - but I suspect PS4 still has some tricks up its sleeve to be revealed later (and whether I can afford to make use of it or not, I want 4k capability lol)

I may end up getting the next MS (and forza 5 or whatever) consle too, but that will be less pressing I think

During the eras of PS and PS2 I would have considered myself loyal to Sony (I did game a lot on PC as well so it's not like I could have 'aligned' myself with a particular company that way), though my brother had N64, Gamecube and Xbox (mostly to diversify our selection, we always shared and played 2P games) but I always preferred my PS/PS2 when not playing my RTS games on PC.

Current gen (WiiU hasn't changed a thing as far as I'm concerned) I bought a 360 first, annoyed me that the dashboard would lag but apart from that never really had any issues until RRoD, just I didn't like the controller. Then got a PS3, found the XMB would also lag, also never really had any issues until YLoD(thankfully during warranty), so they're no better or worse in my experience, but I like the controller, though it did take a while to get used to L2 and R2 becoming trigger-like. As for the games, I noticed no real quality differences between them. Franchises? Like GT, like Forza (2 at least, haven't played the others), like Fable (TLC more than II), like Uncharted, don't like Halo, don't like God of War, don't like Gears of War.

As for next-gen, I really need more information before making decisions. However, my current opinion of MS would lead me to believe I won't bother with them again, while my opinion of Sony and especially SCEE has dropped drastically in the last few years mostly due to their - for want of a better word - treatment of European/Oceanic customers. I'd rather everyone just go back to PC (most of my closest friends on PS3 are former PC-gamers too) but they don't want to because of the potential costs involved (fair enough), so although I'm waiting for more info, the 'what my friends have' thing that could be the ultimate deciding factor in me getting a PS4. At the present time though, I don't see myself getting one, especially in my current financial state.

I also stayed up to watch the PS event where it was announced, waiting for an Xbox one to see what they bring to the table :)

Right at this moment I feel both Sony and Microsoft are moving away from the core basics of gaming and the further they move away (like Nintendo), the less interested I'm becoming. I've had a 360 since launch and a PS3 (for a while) and I've enjoyed them, but nothing of what I've heard about the PS4 excites me and nothing rumored about the next Xbox does either. I just see a list of 'features' I don't want.

Maybe I'm outgrowing gaming, who knows, although I personally think Microsoft and Sony are changing what gaming or games consoles are and its taking the fun away for me. I look at how the 360 (PS3 too, but to a lesser extent) has evolved over its 7+ years with its software and hardware and its almost unrecognisable now, Aside from improvements to the quality of the hardware pretty much all of it is wasted on me.

I just want a console, a pad and to sit and play a game or watch the odd film.
I don't want to exercise, if I did I'd go outside and ride my bike, I don't want to dress an Avatar or take a tour round a virtual apartment, I don't want to browse the internet or go on Facebook, I have a PC for that.

I can really see me not bothering this time around, but that said, if there's an exclusive I simply can't live without I may end up buying one or the other as I have no particular loyalty to either.

What a bizzare post.

It's like saying you are going to write your essay on a type writer because a PC can play games, browse the Internet, etc... When you only want to write an essay.

Just because it does a lot more, doesn't mean you can't can't write your essay better on the PC than you can using a type writer, or even a PC with nothing but word installed as perhaps a better example

Yes just because it can do something like let you browse etc doesn't make it any less of a gaming console. The functionality is there if you want it but if you don't then that's cool too.

I have owned every console released by Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft and all but the Saturn from Sega. I currently prefer xbox when gaming so will likely stick with ms. No plans to buy a ps4 at the moment (probably will buy one knowing me)

Well, I'm a bizarre person :D

That's a daft analogy really.

PCs have and always been multi-use devices and always will be, I use my PC for a lot of things, internet, work, video editing, gaming etc, i.e. intended use. Consoles have always been pure gaming machines and they are evolving into something else and they are, for me, losing their appeal. Of course I can ignore all the extra features of new consoles (I do currently) but I then have a expensive piece of kit that has lots of extra uses that are all wasted on me, so why bother? I'm not saying no one else should have or use them as I'm sure there are people that will love all the new features and that's fine, but its not for me. Hence right now, I doubt I'll buy any of the new consoles.

I never said it would be any less of a console, its more that its no longer just a console, and thus has killed my interest. It's a personal thing and maybe something to do with my age, who knows.

Fair enough that's your preference. Personally I couldn't care what features it has (usable or not) so long as it lets me play the latest games. I'm no spring chicken either but I will probably always want to buy shiny new things! :)

hmm, You're giving up a lot of games on consoles, and its not like the price tag is that huge. Maybe at launch it was, But now you can grab a console and a massive back catalogue of games for an absolute bargain of a price. Regardless of you using the extra features available or not.

I use my consoles primarily for gaming, and I use my HTPC for everything else. Although I use my PS3 for bluray, because well....Its right there :p

But they are going to cost the same as the old ones, possibly less in the PS4's case.

Why avoid buying a new console, that's the same price as the old ones, just because the OS on them has more features.

Your irrationality really confuses me

I can kinda see his point if those features unneccessarily bump up the consoles price, like the PS3 with BD and now the Kinect sensor in the next Xbox, if you arent interested in those features at all, its not hard to see how some might be turned away - its not like they are 'free' features - either the price goes up or corners are cut elsewhere to keep on price - yet to see which one the next Xbox decides to aim for...

ps3ud0
