'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

On Apr 11th 2014 the JACC reported that analysis of the signals received by the RAAF AP-3C Orion Aircraft on Apr 10th 2014 identified the signals as being unrelated to the flight or cockpit voice recorders. ADV Ocean Shield is continuing more focussed sweeps with the tower ping locator, the Orion Aircraft continues acoustic search. "A decision as to when to deploy the Autonomous Underwater Vehicle will be made on advice from experts on board the Ocean Shield and could be some days away."

Seems that's yesterdays ping was another red herring.

Technologies are in place on about 30% of the Boeing planes already due to regulation. It is just luck this one has not been fitted yet due to the time frame given to the manufacturers.

It's not bad luck, it's corner cutting, if they wanted to they could update the black box immediately, they instead choose to give a large time frame to do it in, as is typical for aircraft faults and has resulted in many deaths historically where known defects were not repaired in time, so the airlines could save money by updating the aircraft during the mandatory servicing period.

I wonder how much money they've now spent looking for this doomed airline. Who's going to pick up the bill? China? Malaysia airlines? Its not fair on the Aussie tax payer, they probably only had a couple of souls onboard.

There was an article on the BBC the other day about exactly this. Seems each country will take their own hit. Amazing how much each ship costs per day, several 100,000 per day.

I'll see if I can dig it out - I suppose its a hit the international community is happy enough to take.

that ship costs that much to run regardless of if it's in the Indian Ocean, or cruising down the English Channel. The costs are really a moot point and just media sensationalising...

This is a very good point. Most of the kit and people being used have been reassigned from other activities. The ships would still be costing thousands a day regardless of what they are actually doing.

Not only that but this is probably very good training for the crew. The actual cost of the operation will be significantly less than the bbc article quotes.

After all the raised hopes of the past days we come back to earth as the Joint Agency Coordination Centre has reported that no new signals have been detected in the past 24 hours. The search continues....

I don't think it's a massive problem, is it ? They have narrowed it down to 'some' few kilometres and are expecting the signals to fade away soon. The sooner that happens, the quicker the submersible(s) go down.

I have a very experienced commercial pilot friend who seriously believes its at Diego Garcia. Far to many inconsistencies, unexplained happenings, lack of wreckage etc

I think I've found where the black box is
