Control Resonant

I'm all in on the Remedy train. I love the surreal and general weirdness that they like to put in their games. Even if the combat gets repetitive hopefully there'll be enough cool moments and story beats to keep me interested.

Disappointed it's a melee focused game, but I'll probably still pick it up at some point, looking at the positive reviews.

Just read that PS5 gets 48hr early access.
Yeah that's pretty rubbish that its only PS5, not bothered personally as I'm not going to have much time until the weekend, but they should have done it for all platforms with the deluxe edition.

Very much looking forward to it anyway!

Not a fan of the surreal weirdness in Remedy games, none of it makes any sense to me so I can't get immersed in it. Saying that though, Max Payne was one of my favourite games of all time so looking forward to the remake.

I know where you're coming from. There's so much left out of the dialogue and story, it would make their games richer if they just elaborated more. I would walk away feeling a little more satisfied if I felt I really understood everything I just went through in their games. That said, it's the overall experience for me - the pacing, the atmosphere, the intrigue - as a whole package their games are unmatched.

Yeah I played Alan Wake and kind of enjoyed it but the really surreal elements just left me feeling confused and took me out of the game. I think I just prefer things to be a little more grounded. I also played and finished Control and although I enjoyed the gameplay, the story and setting just didn't make any sense to me whatsoever so I couldn't connect to it. It's why I haven't picked up Alan Wake 2 as I just think it'll be the same.

Agree with both of you.

Max Payne was great, I really liked the noir graphic novel style of those original two games, and even liked the rockstar game as well.

I tried multiple times to get in to Alan Wake, but I found the gameplay lacking and the story was as you described and I couldn't see it through to completion.

I played Control and didn't mind the game itself, but again the story left me completely cold and didn't feel compelling at all.

If I want weird surreal stuff that is enjoyable, I'll just watch twin peaks.

I often lose track of the plot in games, sometimes because I'm more interested in the action, sometimes because the plot is hard to follow or not explained in detail, or something that i think computer games do a lot is hide the storyline across thousands of notes or messages sprawled throughout the game that you either need to collect and read or interact with a random NPC for them to tell you a scrap of lore and it's left to you to stitch it all together. I can't be bothered with all that and my easy solution is a quick google of a plot synopsis for the game. Spend 5 mins reading that, or these days 5 mins watching someone explain it on YouTube, and I'm up to speed and can enjoy the game all the more.

P.S. Love the Rick and Morty banner matt100.

Yes, that is another downside.

A game that goes on for 30+ hours, where the story is stop-start or dialogue is occurring whilst there is action occuring that needs your attention is much more difficult to follow than a passive media like TV or movie.

I know this isn't 'Open World' but open World games that sometimes have 10+ hours between story missions are the worst to try and follow the story.

Word on the vine is the main story is a bit more straightforward in Resonant, but sure there'll be plenty of obscure lore still.

I always enjoy trying to decipher it all though, more redacted notes please!

I was a bit on the fence about this. Usually I'd buy it anyway just because it's Remedy. But with so many games coming out lately I've been looking for excuses to save money lol. On saying that, I am so happy to see the positive reviews and will definitely add this to the playlist.
