conversation, how?

what do you enjoy? what makes you happy? if you were to drop dead tonight, what would be the one thing you wish you had done?

had a girlfriend/ wife. found love.

secondarily:
learned another language
seen more of the world
used my brain more (I was given a half decent brain which I don't use to its fullest)

what makes me happy? pass. Even the stuff I used to enjoy I no longer really enjoy.

I don't want to appear like a kill joy, but, do you think a girlfriend/wife would make you happy if your not happy about yourself?

my personal opinion is, unless you are happy about who you are, then how can anyone else be. obviously, there are some instances, where once you meet that person, everything just clicks into place and you find who you are and grow with them, but it is rare.

when you tried to learn german, was that a tape course at home or an evening class with other people?

no i just bought a dictionary and a grammar book.

haha well, that's not really going to keep your attention for long. you need to join a class. this will also help you in 2 ways, 1 you learn something new and 2 you will be in exactly the same position as everyone else in the room, doing something out of your comfort zone and possibly going to get it wrong. but you wont be judged, as everyone will be expecting it, else you wouldn't be on the course ;)

But what, that's the question.

I don't know! What are you interested in? Maybe if we were real life friends I'd invite you along to my gym class now you've actively engaged in conversation with me and asked a question back!

See, easy as pie. The problem you have is that you're thinking about it.

If I get drunk I get super-depressed. You think this is bad, this nothing compared to when I get plastered. The world *ends* when I've had a few :p

Luckily, I don't drink.

haha not too lucky really are you :p

do you enjoy doing things, like paintballing, quadbiking, pool, swimming, running..............or are you happy sitting at home watching tv/films, listening to music, reading....?

You're in the classic S.A.D. rut I'm afraid OP. I know because I've been there....as have many others on a computer forum I imagine :)

Maybe a change of job, or same job at a new place? You'll meet new people and have a fresh start.

Plan a really adventurous solo trip? Scary as hell, but it will be so good for you.

I think his problem is, he hasn't 'met' the people in his current job. he just acknowledges the fact there are other people in the building, but doesn't interact with them.

I do lots and lots of running atm, helps stabilise my mood. Like today after failing to talk to that hot chick at work, I was really beating myself up about it, so had to go for a long run to distract myself.

Not tried paintball, but the old laser thing was fun as a kid ;) Pool/snooker I love, but don't get to play much.

I do end up sitting at home on my own pretty much because of lack of alternatives. I couldn't just go down the pub on my own, would be weird.

this is where im at at the moment. I want to go out and meet people, but I don't want to go out on my own because then you look like the weird guy with no mates. plus I don't drink, so I would be the weird guy with no mates ordering coke.
you need to get friendly with someone from work, and that gives you an excuse to go out. prey on the week, they are easier targets.

Your situation sounds scarily similar to mine. How come you don't drink? Are you officially teetotal?

haven't drunk in 10 years, so I suppose I would be classed as teetotal. I don't drink as I don't see the point. putting fluids in my mouth is to quench my thirst, alcohol doesn't do this. I feel people use alcohol as a means to have a good time, I don't require alcohol for this. plus, I didn't really like the taste of beer and that. admittedly, between 15-18 I did the usual drinking loads with mates, but I guess I grew out of it.
I wouldn't say I would never have a social drink if required, but I don't personally feel the need.

And you don't feel like you're missing out, huh? I don't drink to get drunk these days, but there are some supremely nice tasting beverages. Ignore your cheap lagers, there are some amazing ales, ciders, perries... don't you even like the taste anymore?
