Show us then.

Most of the reviews I can find online say "near supercar" tho it is listed under supercars on a few websites... I have the magazines somewhere from back in the day tho if I can find them.

Come on now it's just marketing 101 by trying to say it's the cut above the rest. Even now mags/tv shows get cars and they listen to what the marketing department has to say about it, keeps everyone happy. Even with the likes of Ferrari!

But personally I prefered Peugeot's approach:

Does a Caterham/Westfield or Ariel Atom not count as a supercar? because they will all out accelerate a Ferrari and a Porsche and they're significantly cheaper

The Toyota Supra could "out accelerate a Ferrari and a Porsche" with a couple of cheap mods and it was "significantly cheaper" while being more practical, much more reliable and cheaper to run, but it was no supercar.

Was the VR6 not out at the same time as its main rival the MK3 Astra GSI?

Which, lets be honest looked better, had the same power yet NO one in their right mind would EVER class an Astra as a supercar.

Skeeter makes an interesting point though. It's too small to get regular RPU kit in and too expensive/overpowered for the usual duties small cars are used for. It's one of the reasons the new impreza didn't really take off with Police forces, it's just a bit too small.

The officer was from VORTEX, and they, and the TVCU as they were previously have always loved that sort of car. They had R32 Golfs, A3 3.2s and currently use the Impreza..

They're seperate from the RPU so don't need to carry the usual kit.

Every time you post you provide lulz.

How do you mean? if you google you will find reviews online where they say "near supercar", you will also find a fair few websites where its listed under the supercar section. If I can find them I definitely do have articles from the established motoring press at the time with the headline "affordable supercar".

Now I'd agree that in no regard does it come under what people would generally accept as a classic supercar... I don't consider it a supercar - but that doesn't change that its often been regarded as a supercar or near supercar.
