Core 2 Duo E8400 Vs Core 2 Quad Q6600

I already have a quad running prime stable at 3.8ghz 24/7 and it benchies at 4.1ghz.

I think the 8400 and 8500's are pricey for what they are.

At above 3.6ghz Games will show no benefit as it then becomes the the GPU thats the bottleneck.

YOU WILL NOT NOTICE ANY IMPROVEMENT IN GAMES RUNNING EITHER 3.6GHZ QUAD OR 4.5 GHZ DUAL.

Period.

4ghz quad is no longer interesting and 4.5ghz dual is dull too.

If I was getting a E8xxx cpu it would have to be the 8500 to try and break the 5ghz barrier stable.

Not necessarily, fsx for instance is very cpu limited, therefore an increase in ghz would lead to increase in fps, thats why i'm going from e6600 (3.3) to
e8500 (about 4.3 hopefully)

so no need for caps or a period.

imo

Doesn't the G0 Quad use less vCore or run cooler than your B3?

Nope, my b3 was stable 3.3ghz 1.35v and 3.6ghz 1.475v

g0 is stable 3.5ghz 1.45v, 3.6ghz 1.475v....although it may be because I'm unfamiliar with this new P5K

It runs cooler for sure...but who cares if its cooler if I can't reach a higher oc

For me, the attraction of the 45nm parts is lower power consumption which should equate to less heat output, less cooling required and thus potentially lower noise levels.

Will be interested to see the 45nm quads when they arrive.

I have the oppourtunity of getting a Q9450 for £210 from someone in the Industry so I'm seriously considering this..

But is it worth £100 more than an E8400

If you can get one and have the cash right now, I don't see why not. They won't retail for any less than £210 by March (Assuming $316 RRP) so you wouldn't exactly lose much in terms of resale value if you decide you don't like the chip. They appear to be good clockers anyway. Just be sure you're good for 450FSB+ and you're RAM's up for it as well.

From the other thread:

At the end of the day new games will support quad core and from those results the gains are massive with quad core supported games.

The quad even beats a 200MHZ faster dual core in everything aprt from company of heros.

Even then its by a tiny amount even though the dual is running 200 Mhz faster.

Well I just seen those benchmarks and I never realised even 1 core on a Q6600 is faster than one core on an E6850 even though on the quad its 200Mhz slower , seems odd but if this is indeed true I'm going to go the quad route I think proberbly.

P5B Deluxe and GeIL PC6400 Ultra

P5B Deluxe supports 45nm Quad's with the beta bios so that shouldn't be a problem. I wouldn't have thought getting over 400FSB will be an issue but it could well max out below 500FSB. The Memory's is fine for ~DDR2-900 to 1100. Depends on whether your kit was an earlier set with Micron D9's or the later Elpida's.

I'd still go for it. You can always sell it on at a minimal loss if you aren't satisfied.

More Cache being IMO, and you can see reviews showing the opposite so dont go by 1 review.

You need make your own choice, I have and await my parts.

Anyone who can use Google can read that a faster clocked Dual is more suited for Gamers (primary) today.

If you have a quad then I would stick to it... even if you have a duel clocked at 3.2+ I see no reason to upgrade simply to play games / surf the net I dout you will see any real world performance increase (well certainly not enough to justify the expense!)..

If you are upgrading from an old system and want to play games / surf net then E8400 / E8500... I shall be buying a E8500 purely to see if I can get it stable @ 5ghz+ :)

Maybe I should just keep my E6600 surely it will hold and be strong up untill september? I'm going to college/uni in september or october and I'll be moving across the country so will proberbly build a brand new PC or update it before I go, so maybe E6600, 4GB DDR2 ram, P35C DS3R and ATi 3870X2 should play most or everything high at 1680x1050 up untill september?

Easily

gdgd thats what I am going to do, I'm sure I can wait till nahalem or w/e to get a new CPU and I rekon I could get a cpu for cheap then that can easilly blow this e6600 right out of the water.
