Core 2 Duo E8400 Vs Core 2 Quad Q6600

Again they test them just running the game and not what I have already posted. Not all of us use our PC's purely for games ;)

I have to reiterate people were not so long ago saying "if your a gamer all you need is single core"!

All we probably do need is a fast single core CPU to play games, Problem is that no one is making them any more. Minimum now is dual.

How much electric does the Q6600 G0 use compared to say an overclocked C2D? double? tripple? I cant have electric bill rising at a massive rate.

At the moment I usually play games like crysis and tdu and in abckground ahve Opera open with around 20-30+ web pages open, AOL VR Browser, MSN, Xfire and typical things like antivirus and windows side bar.

You don't need quad core for that, Just more memory.

on e6300 @ 2.8ghz i can have 10 firefox windows open on sites including youtube, watch a dvd and it wont crash.

plus i have a 360 for gaming, so should anyone else with some brains really. pc gaming is dead.

If you just want to play games buy yourself a celeron for about £50 and stop groaning about power use. That way you will use a single core cps and less power.
Tut! these people want everything and nothing, so that is what they get. Nothing.

If you say soemthing like that get the **** outa the thread!

I think I'll stick with my e6300 @ 3.2Ghz for the remainder of the year and then think about an upgrade, that will give me a 2 year stay with the e6300 which has and still is a cracker of a processor :)

Quad will be the next upgrade but still I dont see any need for it at the moment as I do use my PC mostly for gaming and Cad design!

Value drops so fast on these duo's think i will get the 8400 or 8500 though just waiting to see which is the best option.
But it's getting to the point almost where your paying £80 per 6 months use of cpu going by second hand value.

Nah I havent, besides its not just to help me, generall discussion of the Vs in here, thought it was best to create a thread specifically for that so there is no ruining the thread of the wolfs :).

To be fair if you already have a 3.4Ghz Core2Duo you're just looking for reasons to upgrade, you won't gain hardly anything since you game at what, 1680x1050?

General Windows performance probably won't gain a noticeable increase in speed, maybe you should ask yourself if you do enough Photoshop/Video encoding to justify getting another 600 or so Mhz.

I'll be waiting for the new range of Quads myself, there is no reason for me to upgrade, if I was that fussed for an increase in Photoshop/Video editing I'd go Q6600, as for gaming whether I'm at 3Ghz or 4.4Ghz I'm not gaining any FPS at 1920x1080.
Maybe I should just keep my E6600 surely it will hold and be strong up untill september?
Of course it will, games are going to be GPU limited for some time yet.

UT3 has my CPU at 100% tho.

I dunno if I should do myself some good and go get me bicycle or spend the money I would to do that and get a 3870X2 or Penryn.
