Don't forget you can sometimes get stung by the courier company. Unless things have changed since last time I did this (over a decade ago), they add on a processing fee for taking things through customs / pre paying the VAT & duty for you.

If we, as individuals, with zero clout can make over £100 profit legally importing a CPU that we buy from a middleman in USA and pay all the full whack personal, single item import taxes on, full declaration.
How much gouging exactly are UK retailers doing buying from source?? Tax deductible spending too. Must be £200 easy. Literally obscene markups. I'm all for business and profiting. But this is just ridiculous. I refuse to be taken for a ride. Tired of this ***p. Won't be getting my money.

The benchmarks carried out by Principled Technologies are even more bogus than we first thought. A few viewers pointed out that the Ryzen 7 2700X was listed as tested in the “Game Mode” within the Ryzen Master software and I foolishly thought they might have just made a simple copy and paste error in their document as they would have used this mode for the 2950X. This does explain why the Threadripper CPUs were faster than the 2700X in every test.

What this means is a CCX module in the 2700X was completely disabled, essentially turning it into a quad-core.

Yes let's all pay 100% more over the 2700X for 10% more performance, Intel see suckers coming a mile away, lol they finally solder the chips but by god they are charging you for it. :p

Nope, but a lot of people think they need the best when in fact 90-95% is more then enough and they just end up wasting money on the wrong things. I guess a lack of knowledge, and e-peen is to blame. :)

With a massively disproportionate cost for the gain, then yes.

It happens all over the place, iphones, supercars etc etc. Are all sports cars owners suckers? No, they buy what they like. Just because some people doesn't agree with it, doesn't make the buyer wrong.

Is the 9900k worth £200 more than the 2700X ? Thats up to you...Its £300 more if buying the chip in the UK so you have to factor in if its what you want.

Its a personal choice and should be left at that... If you don't want or can't afford the 9900k then dont buy it simples...You are not really losing that much...

I took this stance on the pathetic RTX 2800 and RTX 2800 TI release...I won't be touching it with a barge pole...But if people want to spend it let them.

I haven't ruled out 9900k as I want to upgrade my Recording studio PC and intel deals with audio latency a millions times better than Ryzen but if I was building a games machine the differences become less important.

The 8700K was £359 IIRC before the price increase so if you could bag a 9900k for £492 thats only £133 more for 2 extra cores 66 quid each...:p

see this debunked daily on discord for pubg. get 4 in a lobby go into a game. all the intel guys are in first. you on a ryzen after they not in instantly ? yes ! whats your fps. getting drops this that. its not a bit either. some people just want the best of the best experience of playing. especially paired with a high hz monitor. if you on a old monitor your not bothered. say that when you on 144hz or above. its a totally different ball game then. you need the clock speed you need the intel chips to keep the rearly high fps. some of the ryzen guys cant even keep above 100 sometimes yet im on same card sitting on 200 on sanhok map for instance.

so while some think its a waste it isnt. id say the best thing to do is dont believe anyone go try it out if you can. forget benchmarks most are crooked.

Maybe I worded that wrong. But wanting the best doesn't make anyone a sucker.
I'm sure Bugatti owners don't feel like suckers :)

I am sure there is literally no one on this forum that could afford a Bugatti, but I know I wouldn't feel like a sucker if I could afford one or two. :p

Wanting the best, and justifying the best again are two different things - and as I have said previously if you love something as a hobby then that is enough justification, look at someone like Dg who spends his time playing games, and is what he pretty much lives for, so for him it's 100% worth it. Take other users who play a few hours a week, and end up taking bad advice and spending a whole load of cash on something they'll never really get the most from, is that person a sucker, or just misinformed? Bias from both sides effects those will less knowledge, the same way some people are taken in by advertising, or as pointed out buying a certain phone brand because they are told it is the best. There is nothing wrong with wanting the best, but there is nothing wrong with settling for something that does the job within a small margin. I know for me, I'd rather put £200 in the kids ISA's than get 10fps more in a game - does that make me wrong or a sucker? :)

If it's a Veyron then they'll likely recoup most if not more than they paid. To be fair if they are buying a $1 million car the chances are they wouldn't be that bothered.

On a different note I know of a customer who brought a GT-R back when they first come out and ended up having to trade it in for an Evo, because the GT-R needed new brake disc's and pads that he couldn't afford. I'd say you could potentially call him a sucker.

For example I could easily buy a 9900k or any other processor sold through Overclockers, I find myself looking at those who are as suckers from time to time, yet alone those buying 2080ti's. But ultimately it's their money their choice.
