Anyone who uses a multi threaded operating system.Who needs 16 threads for gaming?

Yep, and Intel's CPUs are only good for gaming. Right?Fact is no one needs more than 8 thread for gaming.
AMD price cuts inc.
@LePhuronnAlso the paste they use isn't bad, it's a Corning polymer TIM optimised for long therm stability (at least the one on the more recent CPUs). Theoretically the CPUs with "toothpaste" should outlast the soldered ones, but that's over very long periods of time with lots of thermal cycling.
Delid is better for extreme overclockers, but soldered is probably better for most people, so it's good that they're soldering again.

No such thing as "needs" in gaming.Fact is no one needs more than 8 thread for gaming.
Sure Intel should have always soldered the IHS, i totally agree with that.I'd say that was the perfect example of why the IHS should always have been soldered in the first place. I'm not sure what you're getting at with such uneven comparisons; the 8700K had awful temps because of Intel's patented toothpaste and proven to be the issue once delidding happened. I should imagine the 9900K would have been even worse if Intel stuck with the crud. But suddenly they're back to solder and all is well.
"Hey, the i9 can hit 5GHz without cooking itself no problem, so the 8700K wasn't bad after all, you Intel haterz!" is basically what you're saying. Solder the 8700K and the temp argument would never have even started.

My point is that people are defending their amd purchased by nitpicking at Intel's cpus to make themselves feel somehow competitive whikst spending far less.
The 8700k would certainly benefit from solder as my 8700k went down 20 degrees once delidded with liquid metal, but the ipc was still superior to amd and still clocked higher and outperformed amd core for core even before delidding.
My point is that hot or not, amd wouldnt even boot at 5ghz so the temp argument becomes pretty null and void. I'm sure the 8700k WITH the pigeon poop tim would stay just as cool if not cooler than amd if it was running at amds max overclocks and yet still outdo it on ipc.
