not sure if anyones already posted or seen this... some more fuel for the fire if not...

Silicon lottery listed prices for the 9 series..

9-9900K (8c/16t)) USD $479.99, and the i7-9700K (8c/8t) at $369.99

https://www.guru3d.com/news-story/s...ed-prices-for-core-i9-9900k-and-i7-9700k.html

Looks legit. I estimate £450-480 for the 9900K and £350-380 for the 9700K to snare suckers that are put off by the higher SKU.

But even at £450, the price is ridiculous seeing as you can get a 2700X for £250. So you'd be paying £200 extra for under 10% performance in 1080p gaming, 4-7% in 1440p and equal performance at 4K (reasonable prediction based off of a 8700K overclocked to 5Ghz), and an equally small advantage in PC benchmarks.

Exactly. It's why I jumped on a £264 1900X. Cheaper CPU, I'll spend the difference on a better motherboard and sacrifice a little performance that I probably won't even notice at higher resolutions.

Current cpu prices and comparisons between amd and intel make me wish i gamed at higher resolutions.

I'd agree with you for gaming. I'm looking at one of these to replace a 2600K that's mostly used for audio work, which is an area where the current crop of Ryzens don't fare especially well. £450 looks pretty reasonable - slightly cheaper (in total system cost) compared to the 8 core skylake x, but better efficiency (quiet) and higher clocks. My main worry is that they may only be making this work by binning the things within an inch of their life, which would end up with them rare as hens teeth. Would still make sense for intel to release it for the bragging rights even if nobody can buy the things. Hopefully I'm just being cynical.

If you do not have something powerful as the GTX1080Ti or higher, then there is no difference between the CPUs even at 1080p.

Wrote many times here, that the Intel 5Ghz CPUs make sense if you play games based in the Clausewitz engine and especially ONLY HOI4.
And that game cripples a 5.1Ghz 8600K also. Hell the moment you trigger WWII as Germany, it would cripple even a 10Ghz CPU.

All other games play great , on the 6700HQ (3.2Ghz cap) my Predator 15 has.
So they will play great on any Ryzen CPU full stop. (if not better)

I'm using a 1080 ti at 1080p for 240hz plus refresh rate. My use case is the definition of "go intel".

Plus I'm looking to do some rendering in the future so having more cores wont hurt. If i end up investing a lot of time in that then i'll go with a dedicated many core rig or whatever the software i use dictates as best. But only if i really get into it and I start wanting to see faster renders.

Until then a 9900k would be a good balance for me i think.

If i wasn't looking to push so many frames at 1080p i would have already bought AMD.

Perfectly understanding you. I play HOI4, EU4, CK2 & Stellaris predominately :( So I am stuck with a 8600K. Which is perfect for 2560x1440 with Vega 64.
On all new games, XboneX with the 4K Samsung Freesync TV is much much better option.

I wish Nvidia would embrace the standard behind freesync.

As idiotic as it may sound to some i recently bought a used 1080ti to pair firstly with my i5-750 and most recently a xeon 3470 i got off fleabay for 30 quid which i have overclocked to 4ghz. I play in 4k on my 55inch TV and in gpu bound games it´s absolutely fine (60fps lock on shadow of war, doom, forza etc), although with some titles the frametimes can be a bit dodgy. It´s only because my daughter is getting into PC´s that i´m looking at upgrading (and the fact im getting a nice chunk of redundancy money helps) . For my purely gaming usecase my setup is fine and i could never previously justify spunking £400-500 on a new board, RAM and CPU especially with ddr4 the clip its in price wise.

Is not idiotic mate. I am gaming from time to time on the bedroom 4K TV, having used various CPUs (4820K, 4930K, 6800K, 6700K, 1800X, 8600K) & GPUs (Fury Nano, GTX1080 @ 2164, FuryX, GTX1080Ti, Vega 64) over the last two and half years. Since July replaced also the KS7000 with a NU8000 (Freesync TV) because of Vega 64 & XboneX.
And ain't going to look back.

Silicon Lottery have said directly on the Reddit thread that these were place holder pages/prices and not to read too much into it.

As I said a couple of pages back our disti has quoted us over $580 for the 9900K, this is due to the severe limited stock available at launch and for the foreseeable future.

$580 doesn't mean anything to me what is the UK ballpark price? You're in the West Midlands, no?
