Cornwall

I disagree with the "its bad raising kids in Cornwall". To be fair, its 'safer' than my experiences elsewhere in the country, its friendly and its social too. Obviously I can only vouch for my upbringing, but I grew up in Truro, and moved just outside Truro, toward Falmouth when I was 18. That was fine because by then I had a car and could get back in there. I guess growing up out of town may not have been so good, but busses DO run, just dont stick ritually to the timetable. ;)

Agreed, kids may not appreciate it at the time because of the difficulties in getting around, but they do when they are older and live in a city! Is a good incentive to learn to drive too! At least that's how I feel! :)

From Callington myself, home of Ginsters :p

My GF is from Cornwall, lived in Newquay and Crantock, and her family are now in Falmouth which we visited last year, and I found to be a great place. I think the biggest problem is finding well paid work down there, that's the reason she moved away.

Isn't there a "special school" in Callington? ;) (disclaimer - I may have made that up...)
As for wages... yeah they are tripe, but if you are in a national job, like the services, NHS or teaching etc its the same as the rest of the country (except London). So in that respect, you would probably be one of the higher earners in the county ;)

I loved cornwall as an 11 year old up. Don't see why I wouldn't have liked it any younger.

I'm up for a South West meet!

Cool, wouldn't want tog o anywwhere to corwded lol You know of anywhere half decent ?? I'm easy really, Redruth is slap bang in the middle.

Been going to Cornwall for holidays every year, ever since I can remember. It's a lovely place, we love it down there, so much so that we're moving there within a year or so. Somewhere around the St. Austell area, close to the coast hopefully which is pretty near where the majority of our holidays were taken (although you're not that far from the coast no matter where you are in Cornwall!). I can't imagine wanting to live in a city up this way rather than down there, to be honest we're (the family) getting sick of it up here, so we're moving down there, but each to their own!
We've seen a fair amount of Cornwall over the years but there's still loads of it that we havn't seen! :)

you see, the thing is, your all saying "we went on holiday to cornwall and it was brill" etc,
yes
cornwall is LOVLY to visit, theres loads to see and do, for about 4 months.
and there ARE busses, if you live in town, but outside of the big towns - redruth - truro - falmouth et all the service is pants and expencive (put it this way, I'm NOT way out there, but the busses are supposed to arrive once every 30 mins, and have waited 2 hours before one turns up REGULARLY).
the genral population are nice, no shootings happening outside your door, but we have crime the same as elsewhere.
its just very slow, kids can become VERY board down here, and its hard for them to move out into their own place as most areas are ££££ for housing with all the emmits buying up the places.
also did I point out that not only are busses ireggular (and don't run late at night) but the taxis are £££££££££££££££££x1000^50.
sure, come to cornwall, but live somewhere else, unless your kids can drive, or ride mopeds.

I can assure you that I would rather live there than where I live now. Busses and taxis don't bother me, I can drive, or cycle (I think i've only ever taken a bus twice in my entire life!). We've been going there for years and years, and not just "in the summer months". All times of the year, spring, summer, autumn, and winter. I was down there for the new year just gone. I havn't got any kids, i'm moving with the family. I'm (and the family are) sick of it up here. We just want out of the rat race as it were.
I'm not saying I know more about it down there than someone who lives there but the greater majority of replies to this thread seem to point to the fact that it's a very nice place to live.

A bit east of Cornwall, I recently moved down to Newton Abbot from Cheltenham :)

From the short time i've been here this part of the country seems like a nice place; a bit quiet where I am but nice. I've never actually been to Cornwall, but it's close enough ;)

t3h

I live in Fowey (Hello to all the other Cornwallians who have posted) I also moved from Milton Keynes 8 years ago (Very Freaky). I'm in Bournemouth at the moment for Uni and theres not a day goes by when I miss Cornwall (and Bournemouth is supposed to be one of the best sea-side towns on the south coast). I couldn't live being away from the sea tbh but even being at bournemouth beach isnt the same as any where in Cornwall.

Fancy seeing you here...

Ello mate WTF lol bit of a lurker on the old OCUK forums arnt we? Feb 04 and only 26 posts? :p

Hows it going?

As to somewhere to meet up I'm not really sure, there is a nice pub just outside of Truro (on the Falmouth road) called the Punch Bowl and Ladle, its a St Austell ales pub but apart from that its a nice one ;)

suppose i better add my name to the list....

lived in cornwall all my live, 21 years now. started of living on the outskirts of clay country in a place called Roche grew up there causing havoc in the pits. Looking back now was a stupid thing riding motor-cross bikes right next to a 200ft hole in the ground, supppose we all do silly things. Moved to the outskirts of newquay in 1998, brilliant place for anyone under 50 to live, especially anytime in the summer. Women absoultly everywhere wearing not a lot.

On the drugs mentioned earlier in ther topic, newquay has no more of a problem then any other seaside town that has a influx of emmets in the summer.

As For a meet up, i would suggest newquay off-season, its not that busy now, or penhale round at fraddon on the A30.

not bad matey, long time no see. have actually been on here a lot longer. whenever i tried to signup the signups were closed.

The only pub i can think of along that road is The Norway Inn, has loads of flags outside it.

Ah I see, well good to hear from you! It's not right on the road, as you come out of truro theres a shell garage set on a double round-a-bout on the left hand side. You have to take the first left on the second round-a-bout and go down the road for about half a mile before you get to it.
Nice pub though.

How bad is it that I've lived down here for nearly 22 years now and I don't know where you are referring to
Maccy D Hill - thats where the Penhale round is.
As for punchbowl and laddle, its down a side road off Playing Place - the next little sub-urban outside Truro on the A39 to Falmouth.
