Cost of Living - Shrinkflation is speeding up at an alarming rate

Are you new here :p? It's someone who spends their entire waking life passing judgement on other people's lives.

No, I understand that part, it's the words I'm struggling with.

Problem is people eating 2 of the shrunk biscuits etc which are 140% more in size than the old one.

The biscuits appear to have shrunk but are also larger (x 1.4) than the original pre-shrunk treat. Schrodinger in effect, yo.

They don’t do this with one item, but several.

Do 'they'? Which ones?

If packs of sweets, crisps etc weren’t shrunk - obesity wouldn’t be such a problem

Larger portions of junk food reduce obesity?

So it's the smaller portion sizes that is causing obesity and not the person gorging themselves on excessive, unnecessary, heavily processed high calorie foods?

The point was smaller portion size equals twice the consumption. So instead of 1 old big one they end up with the equivalent of 1.4x the size of an old big one.

But no. Smaller portion size is independent of the consumption (on its own). Making one portion a smaller intake doesn't change the fact it is still one portion. It's a correctment, an adjustment, to help people eat appropriately.

IMO as always :)

A number of biscuit brands are to see reduced packet sizes after being hit by shrinkflation, including McVities’ Digestives and Penguin bars.

It will see standard packs of McVitie’s Digestives cut from 400g to 360g, and multi-packs of Penguin and Club biscuits reduced from eight bars to seven.

meanwhile egg supply in supermarkets still low, chicken, apparently next, even saw Turkish vegetables/leeks for sale in JS

Eating to excess. Bigger portion sizes and no exercise.

Indeed.

But also poor quality foods and lacking whole foods and fibrous foods. Processed foods are notoriously nutrient poor and filled with sugars and other such things. Screws up your metabolism creating exaggerated peaks and troughs in blood sugar which of course leads you to a vicious cycle.

Shrinkflation- manufacturers think we don’t notice these things.

We buy things when they are on offer or have a bit at the bottom of bottle etc. We don’t buy things when we have finished the product and put into the recycling before we buy another one.

One tell tale of shrinkflation is when the company changes the design of packaging - logo and imagery. We have to make sure that none of the newer smaller products are on the shelf until the older one has sold out. As the price ticket has the price per 100g etc based on the older version.

Sometimes the older size gets reduced to clear. Bought a box of Persil pods for £2 as the newer one had two less. The pods in the box was between 55-65.
