Couple of Corolla T-Sport questions!

There is nothing to suggest that it is rough enough to fail an MOT, or even that it is rough at all. It is Thursday tomorrow, there isn't time to book a slot for an MOT and get it done before Saturday morning.

She is 170 miles away, so I can't get it on any day other than a Saturday.

This seems very hasty. Don't rush the purchase of this sort of car at this end of the market. Buying it without a test drive is nonsense.

You've not inspected the car, you've therefore no idea if this is true.

This is IMHO too far away to buy a cheap car of unknown provenance from a private seller. You need to be able to view these cars with an open mind and a take it or leave it attitude which you absolutely won't have if you are undertaking a 340 mile round trip just to see it. You'll end up bringing it back whatever, convincing yourself anything you find doesn't matter as you've already started to do in this thread before seeing anything more than an Ebay advert.

You can get it next saturday - after she has had it tested. There are loads of places that you can pretty much walk into and get an mot the same day, even saturdays

You can even give another £50 for the pleasure if you so desire.

Not sure how many times I have to repeat this, but without a decent ticket you need to assume it will fail - everyone else will. I've bought and sold plenty of cars, you sound like a dodgy sellers dream here

yeah you can mot's the same day if you phone around, garages will have slots.

mot's will show up so many things for very litte money that you aren't going to see just giving the car a look over and test drive.

I'm selling a Civic for about half what a decent one would go for. It's got an MOT until November. I'm not putting a year's MOT on it.

I'll leave you to work out how those three things are linked :p

Isn't rejecting advice how you ended up lumbered with a Polo that you want rid of?

No that isn't really why I have the Polo, plus I loved the Polo as a first car, and still do, it is just that mine isn't a good example of one!

This thread is ample demonstration of how you'll end up with a Corolla T-Sport that you love as a second car, and still will, just that yours won't be a good example of one because you've already justified wanting it without an MOT etc.

This is exactly how you'll end up with another shed that constantly needs stuff doing to it.

I am going to ask about taking it for an MOT on the day I go and see it, there are several local-to-her places with slots available on the Saturday early afternoon.

Why don't you want a car that's been looked after? That thing just screams shed to me.

I'm really not sure why it "screams shed" to you. The bad photographs? The fact that it was owned by a woman? The fact that it has been independently serviced for the past few years? I dont really understand what could even slightly scream "shed".

There is no hesitance to MOT it? I haven't even mentioned the MOT situation to her?

I just said that I thought about it a bit late.

She says that it has been looked after an maintained, and the condition looks fine in all of the images.

I notice the advert has been taken down now.

Im a bit confused as to why you asked them to take it down anyway as it had 0 bids with only a day left. If you had just put a max bid in at 2000 (ideally autosniped) you most likely would have got it at the 1700 starting price. I could understand if it had 30 bids and a ton of interest shown but it didn't.

Even if some one did bid you up past 2k the chances of that person not being genuine and not picking the car up are pretty high on ebay.

Not unheard of for timing chains to wear prematurely, and normally get replaced when they start getting a little noisy - wouldn't worry about that.

Service stamp missing is neither here nor there - a few reasons why it might not be.

We shall see what happens. I will be checking it as thoroughly as I can, and I will have a friend with me who is familiar with cars - there will be no rush on Saturday.

Just because I chose to ping a £100 deposit their way doesn't mean I can't still walk away, it was my decision to do that because I wanted the chance to look at it. You might think it was a stupid decision, thats your opinion. You might be right!

It gets better, I forgot about the deposit

Good luck arguing the toss on something you've left money on, the only thing even loosely binding you to that £100 and your train fare being a 3 word eBay ad

Good luck getting that mot'd

Gold luck getting those tints off

Good luck with your new shed! :p

Get the illegal tints removed from the front if you buy as the police will pull U and fine you for that. And 99% of women don't look after cars. Everyone of them I know let the oil run dry, petrol run out and wouldn't know what a full service entails so the fact she had no stamps for 3yrs all just equals to one conclusion AVOID!

You guys are too pessimistic... I'm going to look over it, flit through the documents, and make my own mind up.

As I said, I am happy to walk away despite the deposit and the long journey to see it. If I don't buy it I will still have a day out with a friend of mine in his coupé, have a chat and a laugh, and visit some places on the way back.

Think about it, the absolute worst case scenario is that it fails its MOT and needs a few hundred quid spending on it to make it pass. A risk which I am relatively comfortable to take given the fact that it would have to cost me a good £800 to fix before it will have cost as much as most other 80K facelift T-Sports.
