Couple of Corolla T-Sport questions!

To be honest, it sounds just like one of my purchases. Just take someone with you who knows cars to give it a good checkover and make sure you get a proper test drive even if you can't be in the drivers seat.

Stock I really wouldn't consider these hot hatches against the competition, not the best handling (more important than 0-60 you know...) and I thought they were around 8 secs to 60 not sub 7? Might just be Toyota understating the performance though. I'm aware some mods can improve them greatly.

I don't consider a CTR, Focus ST "warm". You think a corolla is up there with them?

They can do 0 - 60 in under 7 seconds if you try for it. :)

The handling is a bit below par though I grant you. Suspension modifications would be applied in a few months time if I get it. :)

Managed a 0-60 in 6.4s in mine, loads of folk have managed sub 7 second times in them, you do need to be brutal with the gears though and catch lift in second just takes a bit of practice lol

I understand the concept of travelling a long way for a car if it looks 100% perfect and you think it's the cream of the crop etc or if it's extremely rare. Travelling for something like this that doesn't even have an MOT just seems like a waste of time though. Surely if you wait a few weeks you can get one much closer to your house?

170 miles isn't that far in the grand scheme of things, it's not a distance that would stop me going to get something that I want.

Well yes, but it's still the best part of a day to see a car which isn't exactly giving fantastic vibes. I wouldn't be that shocked if in a few weeks another one popped up with much more going for it, and nearer to his house. I'm not saying wait 100 years for the perfect one, but at least a reasonable one.

I've never heard of a chain needing replacing on a VVTLI engine before, I've had 3 and been on the Corolla and Celica forums for coming up to 5 years

Everything about this car would ring alarm bells for me I don't know why you're set on it, personally I would wait for another example to show especially as you're willing to travel

As for the 0-60 I don't know why Toyota stated it as that, the Celica has a quicker 0-60 published time and apparently according to the various internets posts you come across they quoted it slower than the Celica to sell more Celica's, if that's true or not, who knows? All I know is the Corolla's I've owned feel a lot quicker than the Civic EK4 and MB6 VTI's I've owned in the past (4 in total) which are supposed to be 7/8 seconds to 60. My current Civic is supposed to be within 8 seconds to 60 and that feels dog slow compared to the Corolla I traded in for it

The 0-60 rubbish is just a meaningless distraction

If it's got the same engine and box /ratios as a celica then it will do it in a very similar time. Whether the coupe is slower than stared or the hatch quicker is an irrelevance.

From memory of them they feel a little bit slower than the type R (fn2) which has shorter ratios so I dare say they're much if a muchness too at a book of what, high 6's

The hilarious claim of a low 6s time, just no

She says that it has been looked after an maintained, and the condition looks fine in all of the images.

Well the images are all useless and crap with the exception of the first two, so really all it shows is that there are no dents or deep gouges in the front or nearside. :p

If she's willing to stick an MOT on it and it checks out mechanically then fine, but please don't be blind-sided by the fact you've travelled so far if it turns out to be a bit more of a dog than the seller has made it out to be.

Whilst I am sure she's a genuine and lovely person, I, as well as others in this thread I'm sure, won't be surprised if things don't quite play out as intended.

MOTs are cheap, and they take half an hour on a Saturday morning. There is absolutely no excuse not to put a fresh one on a car you're selling if it's due imminently.

Lastly, I seriously doubt you'll be seeing that deposit again if you turn down the car, once the seller becomes annoyed that you've wasted her time.

you can always get the turbo kit or super charger for it..
look up a company called seven motor sport .

Pretty sure that would make the car + insurance cost more than getting something faster in the first place.
that might be the case buy why be liver every one else if you like the car. my celica is supercharged ye it cost 4k and the car is worth 4 k but my car is not common.. genuine celica GT only around 500 genuine in the country and i dnt like many other cars

If there's one thing that annoys me about these Toyota engines, it's the fanboys calling the the variable valve timing "lift". All four stroke engines have valve lift.

He put low insurance down as one of the pros of the Corolla. I can't see a supercharger keeping premiums down.

Also you paid £4k to supercharge the celica or is that including the car purchase?
